Who cares. If he signs with a rival then it means he doesn't care about Flame fans.

I would definitely be hanging up my Iggy White Knight shield if he signs in vancouver. The thought of it makes me sick.

Or hockey players don't give a crap about rivalries when it comes to playing for teams?

Not to be overly critical of Iginla, but is he even fit to play in the top six on some teams? The Chicago, Pittsburgh, and LA's of the world each have a ton of depth, and Iginla doesn't really add anything they don't already have in abundance. Maybe LA could use another scorer, but would Darryl really want to commit to someone who is no longer reliable defensively? Basically Iginla has become mostly a perimeter player pretty much that is only effective on the power play.

He's decent 5 on 5, but can't be used on the penalty kill, nor can he be played late in games when your team is up one or two goals.

Which is why I can't see him re-signing in Pittburgh. LA might be a possibility, but I'd imagine that decision rests in Sutter's hands. Who else would know what exactly Iginla is capable of doing these days?

The Rangers make sense though, as I think they could use them. They're not really the youngest team in the league, but I believe he'd play in the top six there. Vancouver of course works too, just a matter if he wants to play in Vancouver, and "stab" all us Flames fans in the heart.

Although I don't really have an issue with Iginla signing like Vancouver like others do. Hockey is a business first, and if Vancouver offers the best contract I would expect him to take it (I probably would as well). I won't hold it against him, just like I didn't feel really any loyalty towards him when he was in the playoffs. There really isn't any loyalty in sports these days anyway, so it would come as no surprise to me if Iginla does go and play with Calgary's rival.

In fairness though, if anyone can get iginla back to how he once was it is in fact, Darryl Sutter.

I see him playing top 6 if the Canucks land him. Mostly because they've seen him at his best over the years, a lot more than teams in the east or other divisions, and probably feel they can extract that from him again alongside the Sedins. Also, Van these days isn't as stacked as the Chicagos, Bostons and Pittsburghs. Wouldn't be surprised to see that factor in his decision if Gillis and co. offer him top 6 minutes. I'm sure he would've liked to have been used more under Bylsma. But c'mon, Jarome. Don't be forgettin your ABCs. (anybody but the Canucks)

Can he even make their top six though, I guess they could just slot him in for Dustin Penner (assuming he won't be re-signed). But right now they have Richards, Carter, Brown, Williams, Kopitar, and Toffoli all expected to play in the top six. Unless they take out Toffoli where exactly could Iginla play? He would not make an effective third liner, and I doubt he'd be happy playing limited minutes either.

Pretty certain Sutter slots him in the top six. Toffoli as the youngster gets pushed down if Iggy goes to L.A. Pancakes I think will not be back. At least thats the thought.

O say this like I am 100% sure thats how it would shake down but in reality I'm making an educated guess as to how Sutter would utilize Iginla. Like I said, if anyone can get the best out of Iggy, it's Sutter and he'll feed him the minutes while he does it.

Remember when KLowe(n) said that the reason he never signed with the Flames at the tail end of his career was because, in his mind, it would've been like Lanny signing with Edmonton?

Well, KLowe was wrong, of course. (6 Stanley Cup Rings Wrong!)

But if Iginla signed with VCR, it WOULD be like Lanny signing with EDM. Biggest Flame fan favourites, biggest rivals. Puke City, USA.

He was asked a question of which team he hated the most. More than likely when a player is asked that question they pick the arch rival. He pretty much had 2 choices Edmonton or Vancouver. I don't see how he would pick Washington if they only play them once or twice a year.

Basically its a loaded question.

Hope he goes to the Canucks just to finally see how committed to Iggy his fans are. He ceased to exist to me when he left town. I can't imagine the reaction to him going to the hated rivals on the west coast.

And? Usually your most hated team is your rival.

If Iggy goes to the Canucks, at the very least I hope he damages that franchise 10x worse then Messier ever did.
