Its funny I just said to a buddy that I feel Iginla will sign with the Canucks, and he countered with the Kings. I could see both scenarios honestly. You have the Sutter and Regher factor added to the fact they should be serious contenders for what should be his contract duration. I thin Iginla would be a good fit with the Canucks (as much as I dont want to say it) if he signs a cheaper contract around 4 million.
That was the other thing I was debating, how much do you think Iginla is worth? I say he should get around 4 million tops but I can see teams giving offers of 6 million.

I think the new 'interview period' has begun.
Players can talk to teams beforehand now, so tv can get their ratings scoop on free agent day, and it doesn't drag on a week before the big names sign

Agreed. They want some age and experience, know he'll play well with Tangs too.
not a contender and a rebuild so I guess in the end he'd not want that.

If Iginla touches ink to CanSucks paper he will be forever dead to me. After so many years of playing against them, I just see no way.
I would boo until my lungs go every time he comes. Go to LA where I can cheer for you Iggy!

Has anyone considered what his wife does for a living and at this point, maybe setting her up for her career? I'm guessing she's some type of model and in that case, NY and LA would be her choice (not to mention their good teams). Before the situation with the Flames, I thought he would have some loyalty to the Pens, but after how he handled it, I don't think he owes anything to them after only 3 months with them. LAK and NYR are my guesses, with more leaning towards LA.

Not all that different from the Gretzky Blues jersey. Someday, Iginala's Pens jersey will be considered retro.

I think she's a little too old for modelling, plus my understanding is that Iggy and his wife were going through a divorce. Not confirmed, just what I've heard round town. In which case, her career will likely consist of travelling the world at her leisure until the end of her days.

In that case, it's still LA and NY as those are where he can find the finest women. LA is still my choice because they'd come cheaper.

Your scenario would make sense if he signs NOT for cheap with a non-contender, and then hope that his stats won't collapse too much and contenders still want him at the deadline. That way he would collect the money and also a chance for glory.
|
Iginla's chances for top line and ice time improve on a bottom feeder, so his stats should be better not worse. Sign for cheap to insure that your pick of contending team can afford you (even though it will only be a fraction remaining at trade deadline so maybe no need for over cheap)

Yeah, go ahead Iggy, pick your next Stanley Cup contender in Vancouver. Worked out the first time for ya in Pitts while you screwed us in some nice decent prospects. You pick Van and like another poster put it- you are dead to me. At this point though, I could care a less where he ends up, I'm about the Calgary Flames and not Iggy's quest for the cup.

Honestly I'd lose all my respect for Iginla if he signed with the Canucks. He'd go from my favorite player to most hated in an instant.

I would not hate picking up another late 1st round pick for annual Iggy rental
|
He already did something like that and it didn't work out for him (being on the Flames). Unfortunately, Stanley Cup winners are not always predictable or given- it's always a crap shoot as Iggy found out. And he is not going to fetch another 1st- he barely did it this year. He can try this strategy for the last few years and never touch Stanley.

If he signs with the Canucks, clearly winning a Cup is not his priority. I don't really see the Rags being contenders either to be honest. The Pens/Kings are clearly another matter.
Honestly, with each new prospect and Flames player, the less I care about were Iginla lands. I just don't want him here...we have too much momentum in the rebuild already. I'd rather he go to the Canucks in that case.
