E-mails have been flying all over the place, and all of us on the engineering team have been told not to fly out of Calgary until further notice as we will be called upon in assisting the City of Calgary and many other clients in the downtown core in ensuring their systems come up properly, remedying issues with any that don't, and assisting with disaster recovery scenarios for situations where servers have been submerged.

I couldn't find anything in the pressers in my very short/limited search, so right now its just some people on reddit |

Was in Eau Claire tonight. Lights were off and felt eerie. It was unfortunate to see car windows smashed in. It's really sad and appalling that people are taking advantage of those affected by this disaster. If anyone sees this happening I encourage you to call the police, or at least chase them off with a large stick or bat.

Global said something about needing 1000 people to volunteer to help welcome people back into their neighborhoods? Meet at McMahon, I believe.
I really wanted to come in and help in the next couple of days but the kid ended up back on the IV so the next few days will be spent running back and forth to the hospital for meds.

I am amazed that people are still not leaving affected areas. Saw on the news that High River has people in it still, are they ####ing nuts? They are just making the situation worse.

Not sure if you were on my street but none the less a heart felt thank you.

Although you have only been here for 5 years, your are a full blooded Calgarian. We as a city should be very proud. We don't sit around waiting for the government to fix things, we all roll up our sleeves and fix it ourselves. That very unique spirit of entrapenurship is alive and well in this city, and I love it.

Look at our street. No one from the city has shown up yet to do anything that I can see. However, yesterday the residents and people like MMF started pumping the street and homes where the floor joists were threatened. Water Services showed up around noon, gave us the thumbs up and told us to just keep going.

This is the best city in world, and I think everyones actions show that. I've never been more proud to be from this town.

Here's the official word if you're able to volunteer today:
Calling volunteers (and their smiles) to help welcome residents back to their homes starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 24.

The City is looking for volunteers (18 years or older) to knock on residential homes. You'll welcome your fellow Calgarians back into their neighbourhoods and help them transition back into their homes by providing information on flood recovery and other community resources available.

Please meet at McMahon Stadium at 10 a.m.on June 24.

Volunteers should bring appropriate footwear, bug spray, weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen, cell phone, water and snacks.

Once at McMahon Stadium volunteers will be asked to fill out a volunteer form. Volunteers will then be bussed to different sites around the city and back to McMahon at the end of the day. The day will go from approximately 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Same here. I was so impressed at the amount of people dropping off donations at the temporary shelter up in the NE at the old hotel. There was line ups for vehicles waiting to drop stuff off, people helping other people unload their cars, people packing up vehicles with supplies to take out to Siksika nation. It was so awesome to see.

Unfortunately, we're leaving town today to head to Victoria (my gf's youngest sister is graduating) and can't help out immediately with cleanup, but will be volunteering when we get back in a week. We've done what we can by donating and taking a young family in during the evacuations, but I feel guilty leaving my city behind during a time like this right now.

I love this community during times likes this. Seeing the way our CP members have stepped up to help the city they love, it's such an honour to be a part of such a great online community.

I'm having visions of massive congestion as hordes of volunteers try to get to McMahon - you'd think it would make sense to have more than one staging area. Hopefully I'm wrong and everything runs smoothly.

I'm wondering if that's why they gave such relatively short notice (if this was announced before 7:00am this morning, I didn't know about it) on the 10:00am muster time.

They know they'll have more than needed so they are trying to limit the amount of large groups/companies packing McMahon with way more people than they need.

Crazy how the water bent those tracks like that. There is no way the trains run up from Erlton any time soon.

The schools are closed to students, but my wife is a teacher and was notified this morning that they're being asked to come in on Tuesday and Wednesday if possible. The communication she got was a bit vague on details though.

Anyone know of any flood maps on google maps that I can add pinned locations to? I am trying to put client address on a map to see which are in flood areas so that our company can offer support to them. I can't seem to find a way to add new pins to the city of Calgary map. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=...1&source=embed |
