In 1995 the river peaked at 5,200 m3/s. They reached that around 4 pm today, and extrapolating based on that number they're probably above 5,400 right now.
I probably chatted with you! but yeah. We have reports of previously un flooded basements that are now flooded with sanitary due to pumping. It's best to let the systems drop on their own. Vac trucks and porta potties are coming. And please don't use toilets or drains in the meantime.

Im sure that this scenario will be a strange one for the insurance companies - overland flooding is not covered, but flooding due to sewer back up is - so, if your house floods and you pump it out, and then your sewers back up and reinventory the water in your house - is it then covered?
I expect as a teacher I will be reporting to work on Tuesday.......only 1/2 day left for kids this school year. Lots of parents will be looking for daycare solutions I imagine.

The Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) would like to provide Calgarians with following updates for its parking operations as of 5:00 pm, Sunday, June 23, 2013.
The following locations will be available for parking as of 5 a.m., Monday, June 24th.
1. City Centre Parkade, Centennial Parkade, James Short Parkade, and McDougall Parkade.
2. Please note that the elevators at McDougall Parkade are not operational. CPA will be providing a shuttle service for people who require assistance getting from their parking location to street level in that facility.
3. Convention Centre Parkade is open with intermittent power.
4. EPCOR Centre Parkade will not be open due to a power outage.
5. Civic Plaza Parkade is closed due to severe flooding and will be out of service indefinitely. Alternate parking is provided at Lot 62 located at 407-9 Avenue SE.
On-street parking is free on Monday, June 24; however, time restrictions are in place.
CPA is providing free parking in select CPA surface parking lots on Monday, June 24. Please look for signs at lot entrances as some lots have restricted access.
Please note that payment is required in parkades.

They are about to announce all schools in the city are closed until Thursday. Thursday will be a half day for cleaning your stuff up and saying goodbye. Sad really.

And how do you know that all the students in those unaffected schools are unaffected themselves? Or that they don't have family whose house got flooded? It's too big of an event to expect kids to concentrate on school, and if you have some kids staying home it's not fair to them to have other schools open like normal

If the opportunity is there sure great but I still took this opportunity teach my kids a thing or two about adversity and what to do in an emergency. The thing nowadays is that people literally let the village raise their kids while they sit back relax and criticize.

There are also a lot of teachers that aren't back in their homes yet, not just students. Any other time of year they might not have done this, but given that it's the last week of school and all the grading etc. has already been done (I've heard teachers refer to this week as "babysitting week") there isn't a whole lot of value to students in opening the schools to offset the resource strain. It will be a nuisance for a lot of parents though.

Also thank you for everything you and your coworkers are doing during this craziness. You may not hear it enough, but you guys have one of the most important jobs in this city. The quality of our water here is outstanding thanks to you and your hard work.

Utterly amazed at the spirit and character of Calgary and its citizens today. I had an amazing morning and again evening trying to do whatever I could. I had just myself a mid range Ford Escape and some gloves and helped out where I could with what I could. Lost count of the people showing up with whatever supplies they thought could help too. Truly amazing. Been in Calgary for about 5 of my 30 years and felt like a true Calgarian today.
