Chicago was out of the final list.
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 4m Iginla's final list had these 3 teams: LA, Boston and Pittsburgh. Kings never felt like they got very far down the path.

What I don't get is that if Iggy gave Feaster a list of 3-4 cities that he'd go to, why does he care what the final deal is? Wouldn't he have gone to any of them?

What would a "good" GM have done differently? Said "pretty pretty please give us more than that"??
|
The trouble is probably the low odds the Flames have acquired a future top line player in this deal, let alone a key piece in the franchise moving forward.
However, the more I think about this, the more I think the deal smacks of the Flames working to accommodate Jarome's first option: a trade to Pittsburgh where he can play alongside the best player in the world. And it seems to me the only reason they would do that is that the deal they got was the best they could given the teams they had to work with, or they are doing their best to maintain good relations with Iginla so that he will sign back in Calgary after he wins a cup in Pittsburgh.
Would anyone be too upset with this return if Jarome came back in the summer with a SC ring?

3-4 teams to talk to.
Not all would be in a position to take him on.
In the end, Pittsburgh could, probably on the condition that they could not extend him at this point, and he was willing to forgo a contract extension to go to his preferred destination.

Sounds pretty close to a Lando to Shanko combo and we know that's money in the bank.

Doesn't sound like it.
Iginla provided the list, Feaster made the deals, and then Iginla made the final call as to where he landed.

When Aaron Ward mumbled "ummm, Boston sources" in his trade confirmation, you got the feeling it was fata.

Agree. It's not like Iggy was scrutinizing the deals. He gave the team a list of places he would consider. Once the Flames worked out potential deals, then he considered the options and picked the city he'd waive his NTC for. He probably didn't know what was coming back to the Flames.

Their deal wasn't likely the best deal on the table, but it didn't matter in the end.
|
Perhaps it wasn't the best offer, but it was better than Boston's offer so I'll take it.

the flames like to think of themselves as the smartest guys in the room (see: jankowski, mark). this likely is no exception. that being said, he was gone at the end of the year, so something is better than nothing.

Which might be another wrinkle. Both those guys are UFAs if they wait until August. It likely won't be an issue since the vast majority of guys sign with the teams that hold their rights, but it's not out of the question.

Yup, as of right now this feels like we are getting two Paul Byrons caliber prospects from all the reports and Pens fans out there
I hope the Flames scouts prove me wrong.
