What a dumb comment. There's been a whopping season a half for us to evaluate Feaster's first draft as our GM. However, so far one pick has already cracked the roster. Another has turned a lot of heads as perhaps a big a late draft sleeper. Another has played for Team Canada at the WJ's.

Safe to say it's still too early to tell how any of his picks will turn out in the end but I like what I've seen so far.

EDIT: Obviously not factoring in Feaster's history with TB but I really don't find that relevant anymore. Lots of time has passed and there is a different and knowledgable supporting cast here in Calgary that Feaster seems more than willing to look to when it comes to making draft picks.

If he lives up to the contract then they can sign him for similar money without much issue or even trade him when his value is high. He won't have a NTC. If not they can try to negotiate a lower rate and indeed move him.
At this point, signing an offer sheet is the only card he has to play - hardly a shining endorsement that he hopes that they match.

To the second point, you mis-understood what I said. I was referring to 2 years from now. With their relationship where it is at this point, I would think there is a very good chance that he forces them to a QO at $6.8M (or whatever) or holds out to go UFA. They have to believe that is a huge risk. (I was not referring to him holding out now).

Finally, as for trading him - they won't have a chnce. They can't trade him for a calendar year, which will go past next year's trade deadline. Therefore no trade opportunity for the Avs - brilliant move by Feaster and the Avs would have no choice but to face the QO and the possibility of him holding out again

Kesler's offer sheet was one year, 1.9 million. Hjalmarsson was 3.5 for a top 4 D with a cup.

Vanek and Weber were stupid contracts because both teams that issued them had to do something unreasonable enough to entice Nashville and buffalo to match.

It really sounds like O'Reilly camp and Av's camp do not like each other and i doubt it can be repaired. Do they want that nto spill over into the dressing room?

Also if they give in, Duchene and Landeskog have a huge leg up on the av's in their next negotiation.
It has sounded like camps really didn't like each other in the past and they seemed to get over it.

Subban and Montreal seemed far away from each other as late as the day before the contract was signed.

It is funny how easily these things are repaired once the deal is finished and both sides are back to just worrying about hockey.

ya, delay it because if they don't match they clearly have issues with him and vice versa

also potentially weaken the Flames for a few more games, which in theory raises their pick

Either way, Feaster is starting to play the chess game with divisional opponents. It's a net benefit to the Flames no matter what O'Reilly decides imo.

Feaster's last two drafts have been the best drafts this team has had in a decade. And he drafted Stamkos. FU tencer.

Maybe for Landeskog but duchene seems like the type of guy to take a discount to stay.

I know +/- is a kind of a weird stat that some people really tend to look at while others brush over, but did anyone else find themselves looking at that column in those charts that showed players at age 20?

Now I'm not saying RoR isn't great defensively (from all accounts, he's decent?) but I for one would feel more comfortable if his +/- that year had been better. Anyone else look at that column with any sort of significance?

If he is so petty to hold a grudge against a team that just paid him 10 million dollars and gave him a shot to play in the NHL at 18 years old I am not sure that is the kind of guy we want on the team or the kind of guy to give the Flames a break if he is in the same situation at the end of his deal.

I think people are making this way more personal with the Avs than it is and his decision at the end of this deal is likely to be exactly the same whether he is with Calgary or Colorado.

Subban and Montreal were only far apart in money and term. They were talking to each other cordially through the process.

Not saying they can't make up but its not hard to say the odds are against them.

Qualifying offers work off of the players last contract year, not the cap hit.

I think it's noteworthy to mention that the Avs have Michael Sgarbossa in Lake Erie tearing it up. Top of the list in most AHL rookie categories. He could arguably step right into the Avs' lineup as the third line centre.

Break out the Drury and McAmmond sweaters. Coincidentally, both played for the Avs and Flames.

He is going to be a Flame. The Avs can't trade him before the deadline next year and have to qualify him at $6.5M and with the bad taste of this current negotiation he will walk as a UFA next summer. Also with Ladeskog and Duchene due new contracts the Avs have to be concerned about that.

I am not sure the Flames have to pay him $6.5M next summer (2014) they can work out a long term deal well before that.
