Flames were right to trade Zadorov, he checked out after that Toronto game. Sure he could have helped...but he had made up his mind that he wanted to leave. Moving on from guys like that fine by me.

Vegas just doesn't have a lot of prospect capital.
They do have picks though.

I would prefer to trade Tanev (or any of the others) for peanuts to most any other team than to send him (them) to Toronto for anything less than Knies.

You aren't getting Knies for Tanev.
And Tre and Shanahan can remind Conroy about a million other trades that did not lead to a Stanley Cup.
Tanev needs to be traded for the best return, emotions need to be taken out of it.

The more I think about it, I think it’s unlikely for Treliving to trade with the flames for one of their UFAs. I don’t recall Treliving ever giving up a first round pick for a rental and I think the flames won’t trade either Lindholm or Tanev to Toronto without their first round pick being in the mix.

That'll be the TML creed after we send them Tanev (50% retained) for a 3rd, they go on a bender and win the SC, then resign him at a hometown discount.
Meantime everyone's pointing at the Flames and laughing at their "asset management".
Again, I get that Knies is "untouchable" for TML. No problem. Moving on. I'd rather get the worst next offer than send Tanev to TML. Send him to any other Eastern Conference for a 5th.
Tre must be feeling some heat. TML is only in a wild card position today and in honest danger of being on the outside looking in. Fleece him.

I wonder if Dallas will be in on any of Calgary’s players? I think they could really use Lindholm and/or Tanev for example. Would not be shocked if they step up and pay a first round pick+ for one of them.

The problem with the Leafs is a month ago they were saying their 1st, Cowan, Knies, and Minten were all unavailable. Maybe since then BT has realized he is going to have to soften up on that stance or he is going to have to stand pat.

I think if Dallas targets a Flame it will be the hometown guy having an unreal year.

Absolutely overshoot any trade talks with Toronto.

Liljegren was picked one pick after Valimaki. He has somehow accomplished less at the NHL level than Valimaki. He is not really a prospect and definitely a player I don’t have much interest in. Knies at least has value but I don’t think him alone gets Lindholm.
The two players you mentioned is definitely not an “overshoot”.

Therein lies part of the problem with the Selke.
You need big offensive numbers to stand a chance. But coming in second in a vote doesn't mean a damn thing. Teams evaluate players on their play and don't give a soft #### about what journalists have to say in votes for trophies.
I would say they would be more interested in what he's done since and how his game has kind of gone the wrong way? I think to teams that may be more concerning. On the arm chair QB side of things, do you think he equals the eight total votes he got last year with the journalists? More importantly, do you think that changes whether Lindholm can play the game both ways? I don't, and I know teams don't care about silly end of year votes.
|
That is not what I said...being a finalist for a major NHL award doesn't just happen by accident. Players are often valued based on reputation. Newsflash, GMs aren't all that smart. They have owners and fans to please, pressure to make the playoffs and win rounds. All these things are factors.
Do you think they just go by current point totals or something?
You are out here saying I'm "Nuts" for saying Lindholm has as much or more value than Horvat. Lets see.
I notice you also think Markstom can't get a good return or any other Flames player...bit of a trend

Not sure if been mentioned, but I heard Leafs are in the mix on Markstrom. We will see if they are actually willing to part with anything significant

Leafs have the same record as the Flames in a "window" year...they have zero untouchables if they actually want to make a move that improves their team

Good luck.
That'll have to be a 3 team retention deal with Knies + 1st + 1 of Minten, Abruzzese, or Niemela.
Next thing we know, the Leafs are in on Coleman, too.

Ya to be fair, while Tre was our GM, was there a major trade in the league that he wasn't in the mix on. He loves to kick the tires

If it takes a 7-8 year deal to sign a player north of 8 million....he is just not worth that. His age, lack of offensive pop is what concerns me. I would offer him 7 million at 7 years. I don't see a team offering him 8 million over 7 years, in a contract year his numbers are unimpressive
