Not really, they always had a ridiculous gap between defensemen and forwards. It's just that either the defensemen are making terrible passes (I'm looking at you Russell-didn't make a single pass all night) or the other team's are anticipating it and picking those passes off now. Early on it was working at moving the puck up ice quickly and creating pressure. Now it's the exact opposite.
