Those who are bitter about not getting one of Maata, Harrington or Pouliot are not being very realistic IMO. If Iginla had another year on his contract, then maybe yes, but as a rental player for a few months I wasn't expected the tippity top of prospects in return. I think some people were expecting Seguin or Bennet back (lol!)

We don't really know what the Boston offer was, only what Ward/TSN reported it was, so it's hard to compare. If the pick from Boston was indeed a conditional first, then I like the Pittsburgh deal better (pretty much) regardless of the players involved.

Angry posters are using the fact that Agostino and Hanowski were drafted in the 3rd and 5th rounds. It doesn't matter. What matters is what these players have become today.

I'm sure the Flames management know who they're getting but I'll admit I have no friggin' clue so it's not really fair for me to judge the merits of this deal by these players. I like that these are unsigned NCAA prospects as the Flames still have flexibility under the 50-contract limit, and I expect that was an important part of the deal from Feaster and Wiesbrod's point of view because other deals are easier to do now if signed players are coming back.

The first round pick is key as it will have the best chance of being the best player in the return. For those poster saying the return Dallas got for Morrow was better, don't forget that Dallas downgraded their pick. Joe Morrow was a former first-rounder at #23 overall, and it could work out the Flames pick around the same spot with the first rounder in this deal.

Don't know how I feel about Feaster. He has what must be one of the toughest GM job in the league trying to swing around a franchise heading in the wrong direction. Dealing Iginla today is part of cleaning up the mess D. Sutter left, so credit to him for doing the hard thing. I guess it will take a few years before we know how this turns out. Glad he has more patience than a good chunk of the fan base, because there are no quick fixes here.

And finally: Go get that frikkin' cup, Iggy! Wish you could have done it here but it wasn't meant to be. And if you do win it all and want to return home I'll welcome you back with open arms.
Came on here to post this verbatim. You're the man BloodFetish. Excellent post and well thought out.
