This is a game the Flames should be able to run away with. The Oilers have no depth and if you can shut down their one line you have a 100% chance of victory. Sadly, the Flames haven't been able to shut down a super star player in decades, so this is probably a moot point to consider. McAvi and Raisatl score their usual bushel of points and Mike Smith stands tall to make life difficult for the Flames. 4-3 is the final, just not sure for who.

It's just too good of a story not to win tonight really. The Oilers and the Flames seasons are seemingly headed in opposite directions, and with a win in regulation tonight, the Flames would jump above the Oilers in the standings for the first time this season. Couple that with a Nashville win over the Pens and that would push the Oilers to the very brink of falling below the playoff cutoff.
It's such a delicious scenario that you just know that the Flames are incredibly likely to royally crap the bed entirely, getting shut out by Mike Smith in the process.

In spite of their lack of depth, oilers 2 elite forwards generate more than all the flames so called depth it seems this year. The team is also way better defensively under tippet, at least in the games I have seen.
It’s a road game, right after Christmas, I’m sure there’s an excuse the flames can grasp onto to justify a piss poor performance tonight.
I think the flames inability to generate offence 5 on 5 is a major problem. The oilers have the same issues, but their top line should do just fine against the flames average d core.
I really hope I am wrong, but this year’s flames are not very good.
Go flames go.

I can forgive them for the loss in Minnesota. I get that one.
This one I won't allow for the same leeway.

Half your post is complimenting the Oilers and critiquing the Flames. You in the right place? You sure your last line is correct? Sure sounds like you’d rather be cheering for the Oil

CP only a place for blind faith? I always thought it was a community for flames/hockey discussion?

It definitely is. Just strange to see a supposed Calgary fan trash the Flames and give the Oilers glowing compliments. Feels very backwards.
You do seem to be a bit of a Flames hater this season or were you always that way and I’m just noticing now?

It’s called being a realist. Argue his post, but the “you in the right place” is weak.

I am highly disappointed in the team this year. I have little belief in the group, perhaps to the point of heightened cynicism. The results seem to align with my pessimism unfortunately.

Is Smith in net? If so are we going five-hole all night?

This could be the defining game for the rest of the season. I’m hoping the Flames take the Oilers to the woodshed!

I am going to say the referees decide this game. I have no faith in NHL refs to call a game of this magnitude fairly. Whoever they want to win. PPs 11 - 0 for the Oilers.

It should be interesting to watch. Feels like the two fan bases most triggered by the officiating are facing off tonight.
Would be great to watch a game where the refs aren't a topic of discussion for either team.

The Flames have put themselves in a position where they can't afford any kind of losing streak really. I am a little nervous about how they will react after a break but hopeful we see the start of a nice run by the team.
Also just a pet peeve of mine but everyone on here disagrees with each other from time to time. That's part of a discussion forum, it wouldn't be any fun if we didn't. But do we have to get personal and questioning whether other posters are really fans? It comes across as thin skinned.

Well, at least people will have an excuse if they lose. Instead of complaining about back to backs, the narrative will be "long break and the boys are just rusty".
Hopefully the Flames win though.

I'm not overly excited about this one. I feel the Flames are a good matchup for the Oilers as they bleed high quality scoring chances and take a lot of minor penalties which plays into their lone strength.
