The Travel Thread (sticky) just above has become a great resource:

If you had time, drive out for a night or two on the coast.

I'd like to go here:

If you're a music fan check out 2nd Avenue Records. One of the best record stores I've ever been in.

Gwendolyn Richards is a food writer for the Herald and one of my culinary sherpas. Here is her blog post on Portland http://www.patentandthepantry.com/20...-eat-a-burger/

The burger at Gruner was sublime.

Also, hit food trucks. They have a couple of parking lots downtown surrounded by them semi-permanently.

If you like coffee, there are myriad options - Heart being my favorite. Also - Stumptown (natch) and Public Domain roasters.

And finally, it's the pacific northwest so the beer options are almost overwhelming. So much good stuff down there. I'll see if I can remember a few later and post a follow up.

There is a great comedy scene in Portland. Helium is one of the top comedy clubs in the country. Many national headliners come through.

You will be surrounded by breweries to explore and enjoy, so go where your mind takes you. The only must visit for me is Cascade, and only because it is one you have to go out of your way to get to by comparisons.

Tug Boat was great, a little hole in the wall in an alley way. Any number of Rogue off shoots or the Deschutes off shoot around town. Green Dragon, which is close to Cascade is a good bet. They have a massive number of taps, not just Rogue (who they are affiliated with).

Rush hour in Portland is worse than rush hour in Calgary. Stay off Highway 84 (Banfield Expressway) during rush hour unless you want to crawl along at 10 kph.

Powell's City of Books was cool. Over 1 million books they claim. Can be crazy busy though.

The Lan Tzu Gardens and Japanese Gardens are both beautiful.

Ground Kontrol is an awesome barcade - http://groundkontrol.com/
Brunch Box is a grossly delicious food cart - http://www.brunchboxpdx.com/
There are good outlets 45 minutes outside Portland in Beaverton (no sales tax either).

Beautiful city they have there in Portland.

I just left my car at the hotel and bought a day pass to use their train system and got around to pretty much to most places I wanted to check out for one day.

Someone had already mentioned Voodoo doughnut, it's worth a visit.

I really enjoyed Bamboo sushi, I went to the Southeast location.
It has great food and excellent service.
