A line driving centre would certainly be more valuable to this team, but I don't see a scenario where the Flames can add that.
Either Tavares signs here (very long shot, could happen), or Bennett or Jankowski take a massive step this next season.
I am also of the mindset that what we need is another #1/#2 center more than anything.

Tavares is the pipe dream.
ROR would be my first choice via trade that seems realistically available.
Another choice via trade would be Jordan Staal. Overpaid, but he's big, can skate, dominates face offs, basically does it all decently well.
I also wonder if Bozak ends up a Flame this off season, although he's more of a #2/#3 C he still does some things decently well. 32 though, so you definitely don't want much term.
I’m coming around on the ROR idea. But I still don’t want to see a trade before free agency. As far as I’m concerned, no matter how much of a pipe dream it is, the Flames have to make an offer to Tavares.

That is one thing about Monahan. 5 more years at 6.38 per year would allow the Flames to slot him as a number 2. If you can add a center who bumps Monahan to your number 2 slot than you should have center depth that Championship teams do.

Also regarding Kapanen, let's not forget his dad was kind of a late bloomer. He was a bottom six guy early on his career, just like Kasperi is right now, but became a very good top six winger in his prime. Also wore a letter for the Flyers.
Ferlands potential is higher while Frolic has reached his potential and has proven what he is.
Potential aside, Ferland is the more offensive forward. I can’t even use my closing argument because it’s been taken, but turned around on me. I didn’t even think this was up for debate.
If Frolik didn’t have huge shut down responsibilities, he’d likely skate offensive circles around Ferland.
It’s not even a debate Frolik> Ferland.
Ferland's shot and passing are better than Frolik's. Frolik might be a bit better away from the puck offensively but that is cancelled out by his lack of finish.

Frolik has maxed out his potential and ability. Actually, he's very much a declining player now.
I don’t think he’s declining, I’m still a big fan and think he’s useful. But he hasn’t scored 20 goals in 9 seasons... which was when he repeated his career high of 21 goals.
Ferland is faster
Their shots aren’t even remotely comparable (Ferland by a landslide)
Even just go compare their final junior years (both 20yrs old I believe).
Frolik has maxed out his potential and ability. Actually, he's starting to fall off the cliff and is very much a declining player now.
All trends of players who were worse the last 2 years have an asterisk. Many players felt the Gulutzan effect. Let’s see how he performs under the new guy.
