I think we're starting to see the transformation to the star defenseman that had so far only been potential. I'm not trying to get too ahead myself, but man does he look like a number one pairing D-man lately.
I'd really like to hear from roughrowdy, ricardodw etc these days. I get hesitation or cautious disappointment, but those that were so certain he was a bust and feel they were vindicated early on had a pretty extreme opinion.

I am really starting to think Dougie Hamilton is pretty overrated.

Almost. And just right now. Just.

He is tied at 18-21 of the highest paid d-men in a 30 team league.
There are no Defensemen being paid for RFA years ahead of him. He is the Highest paid D-man in the league with RFA years in their contracts.
The #61 defenseman salary cap this season is 4.25. That is what the absolute best #3 d-man in the league should be getting paid.
It seems that the Flames have to paid a premium of at least 1.5M-2M for Hamilton
Hamilton's contract is so incredibly bad for what he has delivered to date it has upset the Flames structure.... Gaudreau/Gio are only geting paid 1M more than him!!! Monahan is only getting paid 600K more.
Nobody could possibly argue that Hamilton is anywhere close to the quality of player as Gio/Gaudreau or Monahan.
He is making Engelland's 2.9M look like a good contract.

It's worth considering why the team that knew him best let him go for picks when it was time to pay him big money.
Are you some sort of history revisionist?

Hamilton certainly is getting it done right now. Good to see, hopefully its a case of him understanding the system and now having the confidence to just play to his potential.

6 goals, 11 assists for 17 points, only 31 games into the season. He could hit 50 points, especially considering he struggled with the whole team for the first month and a bit.

I get a little worried about all the "I told you so's" floating around. Just seems like bad juju until the team accomplishes something.
Hamilton certainly looks very good lately and I'm very happy about that. I don't really get the Bouwmeester comments. Different types of players but let's be honest, Hamilton is not as accomplished as Bouwmeester is yet.
Can we just enjoy the good play without rendering final verdicts?

Sure but it would be nice if his detractors would admit he's playing well right now instead of being stone cold silent.

It's the over the top hyperbole and stupid comments that deserve to be mocked. If someone doesn't like a player or thinks they're struggling and explain why, it's usually fine. When you start getting so dumb it borders on trolling expect to get a little lash back.
The revisionist history and the "I would almost rather have Griffen Reinhart"? Come on. It's deserved ribbing.

Honestly I'm ok with them being silent too. More than likely they will just pull some BS excuse about it being a fluke or something and spout off more uninformed opinions.

Fair point. It's easy to criticize when team is playing poorly. I have not been a big Hamilton fan but he is playing well and with confidence. Really really hope this means he has taken it to another level. Would be so huge for this team.
It might not be a stretch to say he has really benefited confidence wise by playing in front of a strong goalie.

Or the dreaded "Well good, I'm glad he's finally playing well, let's see if he keeps it up". I'm pretty sure this or a variation has been posted a thousand times on this message board from sheepish posters with obvious irrational player dislikes.
