I have come across dogs in cafes in Europe (inside, not just on the patio). I found it a little odd at first and it really didn't bother me, although I'm OK with dogs not being allowed inside of an eating establishment. A dog laying on the floor on a patio, on the other hand, will not contaminate my food unless I plan to eat it off of the floor as well. Keep them out of kitchen and indoor areas, don't let the chefs frolic with puppies on the kitchen floor, etc. but I have no problems with dogs on the patio assuming that they're well behaved.

Just last weekend we went for a walk on 17th Ave SW and a few stores even encouraged us to come inside with our dog, but every patio bar refused to let us get a table as long as we had our dog with us. They expected us to tie him up to some light post, or something, on the street.

I appreciate this, its totally inconvinient when you live downtown/beltline and are walking the dog. But i've seen numerous times people getting seats along the edge where the fence is and tie their dog right next to them selves on the outside.

Why do you feel the need to jump in with your two Cents.
Rerun and I are having a differnce of opinion. He doesn't seem to be throwing his toys, yet you seem to be running to pick them up. I am sure Rerun, is fine with my different opinion, it's what message boards are for.....oh wait, maybe they are not, maybe we should just all agree, all have the same thoughts on topics.

You can have a difference of opinion without going out of your way to be a dick, but hey, that's just you I guess.

Debate is fine. Personal attacks aren't. There's no need for them in a debate is you have a sufficient argument. You were being a jerk about Rerun's point of view, saying you felt sorry for him that he considers his dog his best friend. You said that it was sad that he had to look to an animal for that kind of companionship. That's not a difference of opinion, that's you being an a$$hole.

I stand by my opinion that to have an animal that is as smart as say a 4 yr old, although I have not met many that eat poo, as your best friend is a sad statement. Perhaps my definition of best friend is different.
Some posters here are quick to throw their toys.

So really... whats the difference between me having my dog laying down next to my table or laying down next to my table but there's a fence between him and me? .... health wise?
Why not just dispense with the baloney and let my dog onto the patio. Health wise, for those who are concerned with dog germs, there's no difference.
The only person it affects is me who may or may not be able to find a table next to the fence. If I can't I'm SOL and I have to go on to the next place to look for a fence table.
