Of all the eras that RS could harness for its next sandbox game (assuming this is one?) this one seems like a great choice. Loved Red Dead. The seeming authenticity they lend their games could translate to pretty much any historical genre. I wouldn't mind a Patrick O'Brian style highseas adventure, or Jack the Ripper era London. The possibilities are pretty fun to consider. Anyway can't wait to see/find out more on LA Noire.
To me this is where the current crop of video games take the next leap. Graphics, control and sound are all vital, but to make games as engaging as movies is so difficult because it's so difficult to deliver a legitimate performance.
I also love seeing actual actors of quality in these roles. Bad actors are one thing, but animating bad actors takes things to a whole new level of awful. I'm still blown away at how good Heavenly Sword was (is). It's a launch game on the PS3, so it's not new. For all it's flaws it was the first game to make me feel like I was playing a movie.

I agree and disagree. The facial graphics will be amazing but all the games using this kind of tech (with quality actors) will cost a fortune and I think until they find a cheapish way to do this, most games won't utilize this technology.
The story will be damn good though.
It's exciting seeing all the new tech that game companies are using now.

Ya I guess I don't mean to say that all games are going this way, just that we have a grouping of them which is more than we used to have.
I guess I don't see this as that amazing. I haven't seen how the gameplay is going to work for the interviews, which seem like a huge part of the game, but its fairly clear you're going to have to pick from a series of canned responses, a la KoToR. If you want a photo-realistic adventure game with canned responses, there have been plenty of FMV games, including practically everything made for the ill-fated Sega CD. Police Quest Swat 1 comes to mind...
I mean, this is just a choose your own adventure game, plus I assume some FPS shooting and driving. It might be an awesome game, just like KoToR is an awesome game, but it doesn't seem like a huge advancement to me.
I don't like this shift to Linear gameplay. You pretty much have no options in steering a game's story in games like this. The new Final Fantasies are a good example of this. I long for the 16 bit FF's where I could go where I wanted whenever I wanted to.

I thought it said in the tech feature youtube video that you do steer the story based on you ability to read who's lying and who's not. I think QuadCityImages's comparison to the "choose your own adventure" series might prove true. No idea though, just guessing.
As long as actual actors have to record every line of speech (and now "act" every CGI scene) there are going to be a limited number of options available.
Other than a few minutes of GTA at a friend's house, I don't recall ever playing a game by this developer, and probably won't play this one, but those facial expressions do seem like a real step forward.
