120GB SSD @ NCIX for $209 (After MIR)
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...y&promoid=1030
Jeez, they're killing me. Get this, or wait for Intel to do their die shrink. Could be early next year before they get to market though.
Argh.

I've been on the fence for a while myself. Even with just game files I'm sure I could fill that up in a hurry. I'm gonna wait till there at least north of 200 gig for a good price.

I've decided that I'm waiting for $1/GB to buy any high performance SSD

That's a great price. The Vertex 2 is probably the fastest consumer level SSD on the market, too.
I think the cost is well worth the huge performance boost. I added a second HD to my MBP for media storage and such.

This is why I’m still not driving a Ferrari. The wait ain’t worth it, particularly when this same drive was probably an $600-800 drive two years ago. We are well past the massive knee in the curve for price, go for it!

Yes, but I remember spending an outrageous $320 at Costco for a 7GB drive back in 1997!

I bought this drive about two weeks ago from NCIX for $245 including Tax, Shipping and MIR.
Sadly, I still have not installed it because I cant afford to take my PC offline for the day or two it will take to rebuild it... booo... Hopefully, this week I can do it.

I'd just assume the MIR doesn't work - never had much luck with OCZ ones.

And it's still available! I was hoping it'd sell out of I procrastinated.

Yup. The SSD in my macbook was a $800 BTO option, and I’d do it again at that price if I had to, in a heartbeat. The increase in productivity is astoundingly evident every time I sit down at someone else’s laptop and find myself waiting on the hard drive.
For desktops, I don’t know if its quite as noticeable, but in laptops its a no brainer.

We're past the knee you in the balls prices for SSDs but we're still in the prick you with needles then rub 99% alcohol on your balls price territory.
I'm waiting for the gently squeeze you in the balls pricepoint for SSDs.
Plus the technology is still improving everyday with so many competing implementations and SSD processors fighting for the crown. It'll only get better with another year. Capacities will probably do a few leaps as well and that's important. I learned the hard way when I was an early adopter for a bunch of crappy 34GB gen1 Raptors for RAID.
This is for an already high-powered desktop of course, for laptops though, this is almost a no-brainer, especially for breathing life back into old ones.

It's okay man, by early next year we'll still have good prices and maybe even better SSDs. Technology just gets better the longer you wait so there is no harm in waiting unless you are really suffering right now.

I've had 2 rebates with OCZ for about $50 worth work well in the past year. The problem was they sent me those lame prepaid credit cards that I have trouble using at some stores and whose balance I can never drain exactly.

Ah I went ahead and ordered one, it'll go into my MBP at some point and I just made $57 at the bottle depot so I guess I can justify it.

Looks like the G.SKILL Phoenix and OCZ Vertex 2 are two of the best performing SSDs out there so this is a great deal.
