Default Searching for good 200mm ish lense for my DSLR

So I know a few of you are pretty serious enthusiasts, I've realized quickly after moving to Iceland I need some more hefty zoom than the standard one I got with my Canon Rebel T2i kit.

I'm trying to keep it around $500, but here's a few I've spotted that sound promising:

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6IS USM Lens $699

Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM Telephoto Zoom Lens $599

Also I've noticed I need a good UV filter and a good cap, the sun in the summer here tends to be lower on the horizon than in Canada which presents a lot of glare, flares from light.

Any advice on decent ones for the lenses I'm aiming for would be much appreciated.

I think the first and third lenses you linked are the same. I wouldn't buy a long lens without VR (I mean IS), especially one that's f/4.5.

I think any UV filter would increase lens flare... I may be mistaken but my understanding is that the more glass between the scene and your sensor, the more flare you can get. UV filter is to protect the surface of your lens and eliminate UV light that's outside the visible spectrum from your photos.

I have this:
http://www.thecamerastore.com/produc...-200mm-f4l-usm
I'm pleased with it, especially at this kind of price range.

If you're trying to keep it around $500, I'd consider looking at used.

Was actually looking at that one earlier, looks like a great lens and considering its price drop of late might be worth it for me to go a bit more then I planned to spend

I hate that feeling....
If you're considering at the 70-200 4L, it's only a very small markup to upgrade to the 70-200 4L IS - might as well! Well, if you're considering the 70-200 4L IS, you'd be a fool not to pay that measly minor increase and step up to the 70-200 2.8L, etc, etc.

That is the second lens I bought for my XSi. I love it, the image stabilization is very good, and has two modes if you are panning a moving subject.

I use it for a lot of aviation photography and construction shots from my balcony:

That's my main lens, and it's awesome. I mainly use it for low light snowboard photos. I highly, highly recommend this lens if you can afford it.

I have a Tokina 400mm lens I'll sell you if you want? I used it for about 100 shots, and since I bought my 70-200 it's been sitting.
