Default The Official CP 2010 NHL Entry Draft Thread

Okay, so maybe not official, but hopefully the one everyone uses!

The 2010 NHL Entry Draft may be uneventful for the Flames, especially Day One. There will no doubt be questions on Day Two when rounds 3-6 take place. Chances are there will be a lot of questions about who the Flames did take and who they passed on. Given where the Flames draft, immediate information may not be available.

I, however, will be!

And just like we did for our 2010 WJC Guide, Future Considerations is offering a special CP discount to the fine users of Calgary Puck.

Get 25% off just because you are a part of CP. Not bad eh? Use this link here: http://www.futureconsiderations.ca/#/cp-offer/

So onward with the draft talk! Any questions, fire them away. Any draft talk is good talk!

Shame on me for getting the guide early and paying full price. Great value for the price and with 25% off, it's even better.

It's a great read and has great information on a lot of prospects I don't get a chance to see live or online.

Id like the Flames to try and grab Kevin Sundher.
He plays center for the Chilliwack Bruins and finished second in points, behind Howse.
Im thinking they might play on the same line? Does anyone know?

This past year he had 25 goals and 36 assists in 72 games this year. He had 2 goals and 3 assists in 6 playoffs games this year also.
He's 6 feet tall and weighs 188, according to hockeyDB.com
The Hockey News had him going right around where the Flames current first pick is. (Columbus's third round pick, 64th overall I believe.)

Does Calgary dare draft a defenseman with their first pick? Wonder if the Kisio-Hitmen connection would come through for Matt McKenzie!

Opt with the digital for now. We're currently working on an issue...for our issue. I wont make you pay twice!

I don't know how strong that connection really is when it comes to the draft tale. Off the top of my head have the Flames ever drafted a Hitmen? And certainly there's been guys around that they could have drafted even in the late rounds.

The Flames under Sutter have never drafted a Hitman.

I think the last time the org went there was Brent Krahn.

I more meant with Kelly Kisio likely stepping in as assistant GM.

Speaking of Hitmen, i'd like to see them grab Broda in the later rounds. IMO taking a 19 year old that can step in in 1-2 years vs a 17 year old that is 3-4 years away would be a better use of one of the many late picks the Flames have this year.

I will correct myself here: the Flames have drafted two Hitmen in their history. Brent Krahn and Wade Davis, who was drafted the same year as Krahn when the draft was held in Calgary in 2000.

I can't remember if Brent Dodginghorse was drafted by the Flames or signed as a free agent?

Free agent - and then he ripped the club for not giving him a real shot.

This draft year isn't as fun without a 1st rounder to project who the Flames will pick.

yeah, but there are a couple of prospects I wouldn't mind seeing: Jared Knight out of london. He's ranked mid 50's and if he is close to our first pick we should try to trade up to get him. He's not a playmaker but a good finisher. I have watched some of his highlights on Youtube, you will be impressed. His teammates and coaches have called him very professional and strong a leader at a young age.

I like the Sundher idea if he falls a bit.

I like Matt Mckenzie if we can get him.

I think there are a couple of USNDP defencemen we should take a look at if any slip.

Alex petrovich is an interesting player since he is projected in the 2nd round and plays in red deer. He's a good sized, good skaing, tough competitor.

Jonnathan Johannsen seems like a big bodied, late bloomer from sweden in the Franzen mould. He needs some skating and fitness work but is a big body and a precise passer, according to scouting reports.

Kevin Sundher would be my ideal pick for the flames first pick and I think he's ranked right about where the Flames pick first. Or Greg McKegg, who I hadn't heard of till just a few days ago but his counting stats are great for a guy ranked 61-70.

Although I'd prefer a forward I'd make an exception for Brock Beukeboom (Son of Jeff) just for the fact that no human being should have so epic a name as Brock Beukeboom.

If Joey Hishon, slip to the where the Flames are drafting they should take a chance. Terific speed and world class acceleration and has great hands to o along with them. Is somewhat undersized and had an absolute trainwreck of a season due to a foot injury. In 08-09 he lead his team in scoring, and points by 10 goals and 25 points, as a OHL sophmore. That doesn't happen too often.

Here's a good read i got from that other board...

it's a pretty bold list but some good analysis on players that you haven't heard as much about.
