Default 2010 CIS Men's Hockey Championship Thread

The 2010 University Cup starts this thursday in Thunder Bay. As I am stuck here in Thunder Bay I am pretty happy for this to start as its the best live hockey available here! Schedule is as follows:

Pool A
1. Alberta
4. Lakehead
6. UQTR

Pool B
2. McGill
3. Saint Mary’s
5. Manitoba

Wednesday, March 24
11:00 Media Conference (Fort William Curling Club – Fort William Gardens)
18:00 All-Canadian Awards Banquet (Fort William Historical Park)

Thursday, March 25
14:00 Pool B #1: McGill vs. Manitoba (SSN Canada webcast)
19:30 Pool A #1: Alberta vs. UQTR (SSN Canada webcast)

Friday, March 26
14:00 Pool B #2: Saint Mary’s vs. Loser Pool B #1 (SSN Canada webcast)
19:30 Pool A #2: Lakehead vs. Loser Pool A #1 (SSN Canada webcast)

Saturday, March 27
14:00 Pool B #3: Saint Mary’s vs. Winner Pool B #1 (Rogers Sportsnet / SSN Canada webcast)
19:00 Pool A #3: Lakehead vs. Winner Pool A #1 (Rogers Sportsnet / SSN Canada webcast)

Sunday, March 28
19:00 University Cup Final (Rogers Sportsnet / SSN Canada webcast)

Couple of interesting notes:
- Mike Danton plays for Saint Mary's and pretty much single handedly got this team into the tourny
-UofA were the favourites last year and ducked out in the semi's. Favourite to win again this year
-Lakehead got the free pass last year as the tournament host and looked like they didn't belong. Had a really good season this year and earned the right to be in this tournament, will be interesting to see if they can do some damage.

I know most people don't care about CIS hockey but I am looking forward to this. I got back into town last year just in time to watch Calgary go down in game 6 at the dome. Looks like I might not get to watch them play live again this year as I wont be back until late april
So this might be my last live hockey of the year.

Go Thunderwolves!

How can Lakeland be ranked 4th if they look like they don't belong?

Go, Golden Bears. They're the class of university hockey. I think they're very determined and focused, having lost the way they did last year. They fell down 2-0 in their first game against UQTR and then took over. Looking forward to watching them tonight on my brand-new plasma set and home-theatre system.

Lakehead is ranked 4th this year because they had an excellent season This year (made it to the ontario finals). They looked like they didn't belong in last years tournament.
