Our Cable/Sat Bills are about to get bigger! Yay! :(
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/1..._us_television
So expect to have your TV service cost about $10/month more ($120 per year).
What a crock. It's already way too expensive for a handful of HD channels (in the case of Shaw). I'd love to pay what our neighbours to the south pay for Dish/DirecTV

I don't suppose the increased cost will lead to better programming, eh?
Didn't think so.

I love this quote from another article:
Quote:
Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore issued a statement Monday afternoon, reiterating that the government's primary focus is "the interests of Canadian consumers.
|
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....
The CRTC has NEVER had the interest of consumers in mind. EVER. This country is beyond silly when it comes to satellite and cable broadcasting. As bad as North Korea.

I have free internet and watch free television shows on it. It's fun.

Gawd I hate the CRTC. I hates 'em!
Quote:
But the CRTC wants to force large private ownership groups such as CTVglobemedia Inc., Canwest Television Limited Partnership and Rogers Communications Inc., to spend 30% of their gross revenues on Canadian programming and 5% on “national interest” programs such as drama and comedy series and documentaries.
|
Also a big FU to the cable providers for this:
Quote:
Cable and satellite operators are not forced to pass along any costs to consumers, but Rogers, Bell and Shaw have already said they will.
|
aaaaaand a bigger FU to local broadcasters for this:
Quote:
If the distributors refuse to negotiate or can’t agree on a price, Canadians could see some of their favourite U.S. programs blackout from originating U.S. stations despite having those channels in their cable or satellite packages.
Since broadcasters, such as Citytv, CTV and Global own the rights to U.S. shows in Canada, they can prevent foreign stations from broadcasting those same programs across the border.
Canadians watching TV shows through video-on-demand services will also see more advertisements. The regulator said the move would help conventional broadcasters.
|
Everybody gets what they want except the consumer. Bravo.

If it wasn't for Hockey I wouldn't have cable.
I like to watch baseball, basketball & football too, but not enough that would justify the cost for me.
I cancel my cable every summer.
Cable in my house cost $40 a month for digital (student plan).

I have reached my saturation point for how much cable costs. If they make it more expensive I will drop some of the channels that I have.

for the top end DirecTV package, it is $70/month (after the cheap initial sign-up period) plus $10 for HD, plus $5 for local channels plus the DVR reciever and the monthly cost associatd with that - not that cheap down here
