I'll be doing the trade-in thing at Future Shop to get it today. Trade two eligible games and get the game for free. Can't wait to play it, demo looked great.

The 1st boss battle is epic. Definitely a must buy since it's a PS3 exclusive

Go to Costco and get a few flats of Mountain Dew and a couple giant bags of cheezies for gaming snacks. You'll fit the shirt eventually.

I'd buy a PS3 just to play this game. Man does it look awesome. PS3 is backwards compatable, no? If so, is the 1st game still entertaining?

One of the reasons I bougth a PS3 was to play this game and I hadn't even played the other God of War games. Dunno, felt like a badass hack and slash game. The last hardcore system I owned was a N64. Weird. But I digress.
Anyway, I bought God of War Collection which is an HD remix of the original two games for the PS3 and am making my way through the first game now. So, I would go that route.

Would you need to play the first two to understand what's going on in the 3rd?

No idea, although I heard that the story is pretty sequential so it would be a good idea to play the first couple if you care about story.

Yea, exactly what Pastiche said. Chances are if you are buying a PS3 now, its going to be the new Slim versions, which are not backwards compatible, well they are with PS1, but obviously you are interested in the BC for PS2. Pretty much your only chance to play the original 2 are to to get the HD bundle which includes the first 2 games for PS3, basically upscaled with better textures etc.

I don't think you need to have played to first to to enjoy the game, but why some things are happening might be missing, though for this kind of game that's hardly necessary.
Who cares why you are doing something as long as what you are doing is AWESOME.
However the first two are very fun as well and like Pastiche says you can get the first two on a single disc that have upgraded graphics.

There are key plot twists/revelations at the end of each one though so I think it is better to play the first two first. Also the 3rd starts off right where the 2nd ended.
Edit: Actually you can just watch this: http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/88615...pc_021810.html
It goes through a summary of the god of war prequel on psp and the two ps2 games in 5 minutes. It kinda loses the impact of playing the story yourself but if you don't have time it'll do. And really, the story is pretty much all about revenge anyways.

Yeah you'll have NO idea what is going on if you didn't play the previous two.
That said, I'm about an hour in and the game is absolutely mind blowing so far. Best first hour in a game of all time, probably!

Aren't the 60 Gigs the only ones fully backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 now? I thought they took out some of that stuff to make the system cheaper.
