Internet question
I have always been able to load the Canadian forces page just fine ( www.forces.ca), but about 2 weeks ago it stopped loading for me. It still loads for other people, and it loads on my phone, but not on my computer.
Is there something I can change in my settings to get this working again?

Depends on what the problem is.
If you go to a command prompt (Start, Run, type in cmd and click ok) and type "ping www.forces.ca" without the quotes what do you see?
You should see "Pinging www.forces.ca [208.85.114.196] etcetc..."
That will at least tell us if the problem is resolving the name to an IP address or not.
It's probably a network problem with your ISP though, I've seen that before where the route to a site just becomes messed up for some reason and becomes inaccesable to a bunch of people on a specific ISP (works fine on Shaw for me).

You can copy the results of the ping and post them here. It should tell us what is happening.
Or you could run 'tracert www.forces.ca" without the quotes and post the results here too.

Is your phone on wifi at your home, or are you accessing it over the cell network?

And to the above suggestions, I assume that is PC talk. I use a mac, so what would be the equivalent?

ping is the same, and tracert would be traceroute on a mac, and you would do those in a terminal window (just search for terminal in spotlight).

So for ping it says: PING www.forces.ca (***.**.***.***): 56 data bytes
And for traceroute it said: traceroute to www.forces.ca (***.**.***.***), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
I wasn't sure if putting my actual IP address on a message board was a good idea or not, so those *'s are numbers.

yeah for the last one use "traceroute" rather than "tracert"
The first one tells us that the name is resolving at least on your computer, so it's not a DNS problem.

Unless ping is different on a Mac, that IP address should be the IP for the website you are pinging. If you want to check, go to ipchicken.com and it will give you your IP.

|
Especially me, because I've been getting all kinds of problems on our network.
I think they're DNS related, but its sketchy.
I'm getting all kinds of requests timed out when I ping sites, and when I run traceroutes I have some serious packet loss.

My favorite is when the traceroute starts bouncing between two IP addresses forever.. That happened to me once and it took me forever to get through to someone who could actually do something about it.
"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to turn your cable modem off for 60 seconds..."

Oh sorry, I didn't mean the problem was fixed. In my original post the tracer one wasn't working, until I changed it to traceroute. "Fixed" just meant I edited the post to include the traceroute.
My bad. Still the same problem.

I still don't see any data. If you run a proper traceroute you should have a long list of information. Copy all that and post it here so we know whats going on.

Yeah, no kidding.
Or when you call your ISP and they tell you to start calling backbone providers. And then the backbone providers refuse to admit that something is wrong even though the local ISP is telling you there is a problem further up the chain. Then they spend a whole month fixing the problem.
That would be Qwest. The stupidest network company in the world.

Weird, that traceroute shows you getting to the forces.ca server fine.
