So I have this laptop I'm working on. I killdisk'd it, reinstalled windows, all drivers, windows updates, blah blah blah and for whatever reason the fataing thing won't shut down. It goes through the procedure, turns off for a second, and then turns itself back on and boots up.

WTF?

Sounds like one of the main micros is locked up...may need to run it down till its dead and leave it in that state for 12 hours or so...at least that is a cheap fix/troubleshoot.

Sometimes in the BIOS there is a setting to wake up on LAN or modem traffic - you might want to check that out.

This was my problem. This is what I did to fix:

Control Panel - Device Manager - Network Adapters - Then select your wireless card - Right Click & select properties - select the power management tab - uncheck all the boxes.

This solved my issue. You can also try turning off the switch to your wireless connection before you shut down
