I had a virus on my computer that I was able to get rid of, but it seems now I am having problems with my Internet Browser.

I can type and address I want or use favorites fine, but when I try to use google, bing, yahoo, etc it crashes on me.

I had IE 7 and tried to install IE 8 and the same thing occurs.

When I use Safari I dont have any issues using the search function.

I am using Vista.

Hopefully someone can help me out with this.

Is using firefox an option you'd explore? It has many great features that are hard to match.

I have no issues moving over to Firefox, I just wonder if this is a bigger problem then I am seeing right now

Good point. My buddy has a virus currently that sends every search query to a strange page. He's having a hell of a time getting rid of it.

Because IE is fairly integrated with the operating system (too integrated, many would argue), perhaps something was corrupted when the virus was removed. I'd also do some scanning for spyware just in case, but if you're fairly sure that the virus is gone, give Firefox a whirl and you may not ever look back.

Just for kicks, if you want to try and restore IE, you might want to try a full uninstall of IE and then reinstall IE8 and see what happens. If you simply try to upgrade/reinstall, some of the old, corrupted files might be carried over.

Your computer is infected with a virus called "Internet Explorer". Run a full virus scan then install Firefox or Chrome.

Check the connections settings in IE and see if its configured to use a proxy. If so, uncheck that. A common thing I'm seeing with malware these days is that they run a small proxy on your system to intercept browser requests, and when malware cleans up the virus, it sometimes leaves that setting intact and/or fails to disable the proxy portion of the malware.
