Enmax - What a joke of a company
when it comes to billing.....
So in my 5 months of being with this company, I've not yet received one monthly Bill. Some are 1.5 months, this current one is going on 2.
It was understandable for the first month or two since it was a new house, but this is getting ridiculous. I just called them and told them they essentially haven't billed me in two months, I'm sick of getting hit with $800 dollar bills at once, and if they can't bill me on some sort of monthly basis (or close to it - I know they take readings on different days), I'm going to go with someone who can.
Their response to this complaing " There's nothing we can do. We can offer you an installment payment plan for those periods. "
What a joke. I don't need a friggin installment plan. Money is not the issue here (I have no problem paying my bills myself and my wife live quite comfortably). I'm just tired of trying to figure out when the hell my Enmax bill is coming, or if it's going to be $300,$400, or $800 dollars.
I asked to speak to someone who deals with customer complaints, and was told the person I was talking to (the person who could do nothing) was all I could talk to.
Anyone else having this problem, or know of anything else I can do other than "start an installment plan"

So the only reason they can't bill you regularly is because your address is too new?
That's terrible. At least they are billing you proper amounts. How regularly should you be billed, once a month?

It took me 5 months to get my first electricity bill from Enmax. Not a huge deal, but I could see this being an issue for lower-income families.

I was quoted about $30,000 to equip my house with solar panels. They said it would be enough to power my whole house. Thought about it, still thinking about it.

Took 2 months to get my first bill then all of a sudden last month I only got half a month of electricty and nat gas. Called them and they say my services have been transfered to direct energy? WTF I have never even spoken to direct energy. So they gave me this speal about how they can request to have your site and they have to send it over. So then I told enmax to send the site back to them and its been over 2 weeks and my account is in limbo? I donno who I am getting charged from or when I am ever going to get a bill. Luckily I am putting money aside and am assuming the worst.

I think the snow would be a problem. For people who are at work all day, the electricity that you don't use is tied to the enmax grid. So essentially you supply electricity to the grid. I think you get credit from enmax when you don't use electricity. If that makes sense.

I think wind power would work better in Calgary than solar power.

Its funny you mentioned that. When we need power the most is when there is no wind, on hot days to power the air conditioner. I might be wrong though.

Doesn't Calgary get the most sun of any major city in Canada?

How many people have air conditioners in calgary? and you truly only need it for like 10/365 days a year.

Must be a significant house (or full of teenagers, lol).
I definitely want to go down that route as well. My opinion though - it's not worth generating (at or near) 100% power unless you can sell the excess back to the grid at a reasonable value. To my knowledge (which admittedly is about year dated) that this isn't the case in Alberta.
Still love the notion - perhaps have enough capacity to generate 75% of your needs, and use the evil corporation to supplement the heavy months?

Sure you have. They just disguised themselves as Tim Horton's employees and interpreted your double-double order to mean that you wanted to switch.
They ain't sneaky cheats or anything.....just good honest providers of quality service.

Would 30k of solar panels increase the home value by that much? The chances I'd live somewhere long enough to offset the cost is pretty low.
