Default Upgrading to 4 GB of Ram on iMac

Just watched a DIY vid on youtube, looks easy. My question is: since I already have 2gb of ram, do I need to purchase 4gb or can I just buy 2gb? I would imagine they would have to be the same? And also which is the best brand to buy?
My processor is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 1067 MHz of memory.

Thanks for your time, any help is appreciated.

you would have to buy 2 new 2GB sticks. It sucks cause you would THINK that they would put in just 1-2GB stick in but in fact they put 2-1GB sticks in. That has got to be the biggest piss off of upgrading.

I did a 4GB upgrade on a macbook pro and mac mini recently. MBP was a breeze; mac mini took a little effort.

You can buy DDR3 RAM at memory express for a fairly good price. I would buy 2 x 2 GB modules. A 4 GB module will cost more than 2 x 2GB ones.

I went with the Patriot Signature DDR3 2GB ones...They were $10-20 cheaper than Kingston. They've been working perfectly fine in both machines.

Yes, it SUCKS that they configure the machine in such a way that it operates in dual-channel memory mode, doubling memory bandwidth and improving the overall performance of the machine.
