Default Sata/esata

Can someone help with this?
So I have a Shaw HD receiver with a SATA port on the back, I've also got the expandable dvr that has an ESATA port on the back. The included cable fits the ESATA port but will not fit into the SATA port. Shaw refuses to accept this, they are telling me that I am doing it wrong and the cable is fine. Am I really that stupid or is there a difference between ESATA and SATA? I don't see another port on this thing.

No. Do not force it in.

If the plastic doesn't line up, then you have to find another cable.

It might be upside down. The port on the back of the thing is definitely an eSATA port.

The Expander yes, the receiver I don't think so. It says SATA right on it.

I have the same unit and an expander. Doesn't matter what it says, it's eSATA.

What's the model # you have? This is the brand new pace box, is that the one you have?

I have the Pace and it's definitely eSATA. Make sure you don't have the connector upside down. It only fits in one way. Instead of trying to get it in flush try lining it up on one side and push it in a bit and then the rest of it till it's all in.
