Default Software for annotating and/or highlighting PDFs?

Does anyone know of software that can annotate or add highlighting to PDF files? Preferrably something that is open-source or free?

Obviously Adobe Acrobat (the full, paid version) can do this. But for occasional use, the price is hard to justify.

There are open source ways to create, split, and merge PDFs - how about annotating and/or highlighting?

Many thanks in advance!

This might be more hassle than you want, but you could convert them to a word doc using Zamzar and use the tools in word. Alternately, you could use Microsofts OneNote, which will let you import the printout of any file, then you could use the tools there, which are pretty similar to Word. Then with either of those options, you could print back to pdf.

Not perfect solutions by any means, but they might do the job depending on how often you need to do it.

Thanks for that info. I do a lot of little workarounds like that, so it doesn't sound too painful. Whether my boss will be able to wrap her head around it - that's the question. I say "suck it up!".

Check out foxit reader. The free version sounds like it can do most of what you're looking for. The only downside is the free reader version will add a small watermark to the top right corner of your PDF. If you get the (very reasonably priced) pay version, you won't have the watermark.
