Hey CP, I got this email from the organization that I adopted my dog from. I hope some of you might be interested in this. She came from an organization called Little Mutts Rescue, and I am a very happy customer. If this post even saves one more cute mutt, I'll be happy I posted it.
A little info on this organization, and a bit of my story... A friend of a friend was a foster mom for Little Mutts Rescue. I happened to stop by her place one day and that's when and where I met my awesome dog. Just a little darling that wouldn't wish ill on anyone, she was picked up stray on the streets of LA. The local Humane Society deemed her to be a great dog with no social or health problems, so they put out word to the no-kill societies across NA. An associate of Little Mutts Rescue flew down there and rescued her before she was euthanized due to over crowding.
She was placed in foster care until a suitable home was found, and that just happened to be me. I'm so glad I made the decision, and if anyone else here is thinking about getting a dog, I can assure you that you'll be just as happy, too (after a couple weeks of... bumps in the road).
Anyone that has ever adopted a dog should be able to attest to their clear and visible gratitude toward their new master. It's quite a bit different than getting a puppy. These dogs have endured something prior to coming to your home, so they tend to appreciate it more (that is purely my opinion, but I'm always right, as you all know).
So whether you're looking for a new friend, or whether you're just a big, old dog lover, I hope that you will consider supporting this organization, or one like it.
All dogs are spayed or neutered, given their shots and a health check up, microchipped, and placed in the care of screened foster homes prior to you adopting them. I don't know the exact fees, but they run between $300 and $400 total.
I'm sure that some adoptees are more challenging than mine was/is, but it's so worth it. Forget gym memberships. You can get your exercise walking your dog, picking her up, chasing her, throwing the ball, take her swimming, rafting, camping... Get your stretching when you bend over to pick up poo

... Uh, more exercise hauling bags of dog food into the house... More stretching picking up dog bowls to fill them... Trust me, you'll get exercise.
So there's my pitch. Below is the email I got regarding this adopt-a-thon. Hope some of you consider it. If you're not in the market for a dog, maybe you have some old dog supplies that are cluttering up your place. Donate them! If you want to donate, but don't have the time to go up there, pm me your address and leave it on your front step and I'll pick it up and take it in for you.
Without further adieu, here is the email:

Saving one mutt at a time…
PS, (4x4 speaking again) please don't quote me on prices and policy. Things do change, and I did not call them to see if what I've written is all still true. What I posted was my experience with them. My adoption fees were $325, and at the time (last summer), all the things I mentioned were included in the price. That was in August, so I'm not sure if maybe prices or inclusions have changed. All I know is that these people are good people.
