Windmobile launched
By now most of you probably know Wind Mobile looks to be happening for us. The plans look very good.
How many of you will jump ship if this is indeed true?

Supposably three Blockbusters in Calgary will have Wind mini-stores open within their premises soon. Anyone know where these stores will be located?
Edit: Nevermind (should have checked their site)

Just as an FYI, Wind is opening a store in Kensington, a few doors north of the Fiasco Gelato on 10th St. They will not be cramming into the Blockbuster there.
I'll probably wait a year to see if they make it before I commit to them. I'm not quite sure as to their coverage in rural areas (or Saskatchewan) and need to see that before I commit to changing.

I was very tempted to buy out my telus plan, but I think I may sit back and watch this all pan out...

What kind of hardware are they going to offer?

Predictably, the union is trying to torpedo the launch of Wind:
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN1419187120091214
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Canada's biggest telecommunications union said on Monday it plans to take the federal government to court to force it to reverse its decision to allow foreign-backed cell phone company Globalive to operate a wireless service in this country.

Does Globalive have a stock symbol as a publically traded company? I wouldn't mind trying to put some money on them.

I see no reason to jump ship right away. I'm more concerned about coverage than the price plans at this point. I've considered picking up a Nokia N900 for Wind, but I'm going to try the wait & see approach regarding network quality. I can only imagine the spotty coverage in the city.
If all it brings is some lower prices for the big 3, that's all I need.

The plans sound promising if true. I just signed up for a three year contract with Telus.

Who's network are they piggybacking? There's no way they have their own infrastructure...

I don't know why they need to be so vague about everything. Why can't they just say which devices they're going to offer?

They are building their own infrastructure with the money backed by Orascom. There's long been speculation that they aim to be one of the next "Big 3"
Also interesting to note that they are open to carrying MVNOs. This essentially says they will not be piggybacking on anyone's network.

Well, it says they'll reveal all the details on Wednesday.

I think that's fairly obvious, considering they are launching their actual service on Wednesday...

Then I don't get what you were trying to get at ealier when you complained that they weren't disclosing their whole device lineup. Were you hoping they'd release all the information prior to their launch?

I remember when I worked for Bell how many people would come in and tell me how an American company is going to swoop in and beat everyone. This was 5+ years ago, so basically two contracts later, idiots!
Is this just happening in the big cities for now?

In a nutshell, I simply stated my wish that they would have announced their hardware line up by now.

Here's hopin' the courts tell 'em to go pound sand.
I'm so sick of the consumer getting the short end of the stick to ensure Canadian companies continue to take in more profits at our expense.

Yes Yes Yes
Why is it important to have Canadian ownership of cell phone companies or airlines?
