‘Canes grant Iggy’s request
Following The Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche a broken Jarome Iginla met with Hurricane brass about his future role with the organization. The captain has grown disheartened with his diminished role with the new coach Lindy Ruff after receiving only 8 minutes of ice time in a loosing cause.
The Hurricanes have granted the captians request…
Details to follow once I get some photoshoping and a press release together.

JAROMEWHO?
Raleigh, NC – Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Hanna Sniper announced today the departure of ‘Canes Captain Jarome Iginla to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Mike Richards and defender Robyn Regehr.
It what would be described as the unmovable being moved, GM Hanna finally listed his price for what it would take to wrestle Canada’s Olympic hero away from Flair Country. “It’s one of those deals on face value, it just doesn’t make sense but the fact of the matter is… if it made sense, it wasn’t going to happen” said the ‘Canes GM “Face value, we did a lot today to set this franchise up for the future and was something that we had to hold our guns towards and understand it’s market”
For the Anaheim Ducks, it’s a huge price to pay for the elite power forward but with the huge cap relief and incredible organizational depth, the only way forward was a quick one step backwards first.
Major respect to Ravi for being able to close this deal, couldn't have been easy on his part... you have bigger balls then me

Value wise big win here for the Canes, but I know how much Ravi wanted Iggy so for him to get him at a price he was willing to pay it is a good deal for him as well.

As soon as I saw the title, I thought to myself, definitely Anaheim.
Good job for both teams.

I'll give Ravi credit in that he's got the guts to make deals to get the guys he wants.
Besides despite being overstacked on defence his team was underachieving in that aspect of the game. It seems like if you ask a #2 defenceman to be a 5 guy on the depth chart he'll play like he's only a #5 guy. So maybe shedding a top guy and moving some guys up a spot will make his team play better. Might make his CPHL team look weaker, but play better. Lots of CPHL trades work out that way.
For the Canes, it is a good return though, they needed help on defence and they certainly get it with a great two way forward and a guy who can be a top pair defenceman for them.

Today is the best day in the history of the CPHL Ducks organization. The one player that had eluded GM Patel has finally been acquired in a massive trade. The Ducks are very proud to welcome, and hand the captaincy to Jarome Iginla!
We know the price was absolutely out of this world. But with Chara, Bouwmeester and Phaneuf handling the top 3 positions on D and with Bogosian and Doughty in the ECHL, we felt our organization could make a move like this to bring in Iginla.
It definitely sucks losing Robyn, he has been great for this franchise but at the end of the day he simply wasn't being effective on the ice. When given a chance to bring Jarome Iginla to town, a move had to be done. Jarome had been available once before but the window of opportunity was very small and another team got him. This time, the Ducks made sure he wasn't going anywhere else.
Jarome is a player that can do anything. He is a scorer, playmaker, fighter, leader and is the exact person you want representing your franchise in every possible way. Thanks to Doug for being up front with the trade talks and actually countering the original offer. It came at a very expensive price, but the Jarome Iginla days have officially begun in Anaheim!

I would have thought Mike Richards for Iggy would be enough to get this deal done, so adding Regehr is huge for Carolina. I love Iggy just as much as the next guy but this is overpayment IMO.
That being said, I give a ton of credit to Ravi to have the cahonas to make a move like this.
Good on both GM's for getting this done.

WOW! I, like many on this site, love Iggy. This is a huge overpayment though...well done for the Canes as you definitely got every bit of value for him and more!

Just for the record, Mike Richards would not have been enough... I wasn't seeking out a deal to move Iggy off this team, the idea was to build the championship around him. 2nd was I stubbornly didn't want Iggy, Kipper, Bouwmeester and Dion all on the same team. (This has nothing to do with Ravi, if anyone deserves to have them it's him). And since I held the last card I intended to not give in at all cost, regardless who was offered, till the others disbanded. Ravi just like the Million Dollar Man, found my price just to prove I could be bought.
I feel icky and cheap for selling out, but I know I just added two amazing horses to the stable that won't fizzle away like the OV trade did for me

For what it's worth, Darryl Sutter would not trade Iginla for Richards straight up IMO and neither would I. Nice to see some big names out there these days!
