Default Shaw phone and Internet

I'm considering switching all of my landline phones and office Internet over to Shaw. I can save $1,000 a year at the office for phones and Internet and about $120 a year on my home phones. My home Internet is already with Shaw. I'm told the telephone transition will be seamless.

For those who use Shaw phones, what is the service like? Are there any issues with Shaw compared to Telus?

been with shaw for abuot 5 years for phone, no real issues, 2 or 3 times the phone was down for servicing for a couple hours, but that was early on when they first rolled it out, can't think of any significant issues.

Quite pleased with it all in all.

It's fine for the most part. It has gone out a few times though. It's not on the same as VoIP though, so if your internet goes out, the phone wouldn't be affected.

The only difference you may see is if you use Fax. Shaw doesn't support it.

I am confused what you are saying here.

Do you mean you can't fax on Shaw phone? This is incorrect.

Do you mean that if you are having troubles faxing and the problem is on Shaw's end, they won't fix it? This is incorrect.

Do you mean that if your fax machine breaks, you can't call Shaw and have them fix it? Well that is true, in the same way that they won't come fix your phone that your kid dropping into the toilet while he was talking with Grandma. Is there any phone company that does this for fax machines?

TELUS will match any price shaw offers for home phone, and you get an actual copper wire phone that's always on, not a network phone. i dont know why anyone would switch, except for maybe not liking TELUS due to billing errors etc

I don't know anything about Shaw phone. I haven't used it myself.

But in the last week I have had no Internet or TV for about 20 hours in three different outages. If I had Shaw phone. I would have had no phone as well.

This is very rare. But I can't remember anytime when I did not have my Telus phone line.

The OP is referring to a business phone setup.

Although, I am confused. Every time you pop into one of these threads you trumpet the benefits of Telus. As a Telus employee, I get why your position is what it is. The one thing I don't get is that one point that almost always is brought up is that Telus will price match this deal or that deal that Shaw is having.

Is the Telus business plan really to overcharge anyone who doesn't complain that Shaw is cheaper?

Well I stand corrected...

When I first signed up, this was not supported and it said so on the Digital Phone webpage. That was before Digital Phone Basic and Lite came out, so they've obviously enhanced their service since then.

You avoided the question, why doesn't telus just offer competitive rates from the get go? sorry to derail

so Telus offers unlimited long distance across Canada and the US, and gives customers 1000 minutes per month for Europe/Asia/Australia for a flat rate? not to mention if you have TV and internet through Shaw, bundling will save you money that Telus can't match

and i'm not sure why you say you don't know why anyone would switch, as i'm sure your competitive loss department hears plenty from the thousands of customers Telus has lost who've switched to Shaw

Yes the basic Telus Digital Home Phone plan with the Long Distance All you need package offer exactly same terms (but with much less calling features) for phone $46 or $9 cheaper than the Shaw plans.

*sigh* ok

telus offers:
home phone plus +1 for 21 dollars, 4 cents a min LD and any 1 calling feature of your choice
home phone plus+5 37 dollars then you can choose whatever LD plan you want to go with it

we also offer home phone +10 with unlimited NA calling and 1000 mins over seas for 55 dollars, same plan shaw has

telus has the exact same rates, although, the 21 dollar plan isn't advertised as much as shaws because we cannot give it out to just anyone. If you don't live in a major center or an area with competition, the CRTC regulates the rates and we can't charge that low. Oh and as far as your bundling savings...

TELUS high speed 6.0 30$, 15.0 43 dollars (bundled pricing)
Shaw high speed 7.5 35$, 15.0 45 dollars (bundled pricing)

not sure where all these savings you speak of are, strictly speaking about price, shaw is more expensive, especially when you add TV to the mix. Our base package on a bundle (if you have phone or internet) is 22 dollars a month now with bundle discount, and is all in digital, unlike shaw where you pay 30-35 dollars for 20-30 channels in analog, or, 60 bucks a month for 60 channels all in analog. Numbers are numbers, and the pricing is simply better on TELUS if you're in a non regulated area like calgary

edit: and this really has nothing to do with me working for TELUS or Shaw or anyone. I have a telus home phone and shaw for internet.

The only complaint I have is before I moved to Shaw the call waiting beep was short and didn't interrupt the convo but with shaw the beep is kinda long and the person on the other end knows that you got a call waiting beep. Was really annoying at first but you get used to it eventually.

My only complaint with shaw is the voicemail lady's voice. They're all annoying, but she is especially bad.

You haaaaave (long pause)...... two new messages.

All twangy and whatnot. Grrrrr.

Yeah I switched from Telus about 3 years ago and haven't looked back.

Haven't had any issues.

(At the time Telus was charging me $35 a month and wouldn't match shaws $20 a month)

Seemed like we were paying $90-$100 a month with Telus, no
matter how little we called long distance.
Switched to Shaw 3 years ago, $55 a month and never looked back.

On the other hand, what are people's thoughts on Telus internet? I am so sick of getting sales calls from Shaw that I'm ready to cancel my account. No matter how many times I tell them to stop, they keep calling back. In the 2 years I've had my phone line with Telus, they haven't bugged me once.
