If you have a MobileMe account with Apple it has a feature that can track your iphone, there have been numerous cases of people finding their iphones using the find my iphone feature on MobileMe. Of course if you don't own a mac then MobileMe might be waste, but if you do own a Mac and an iphone MobileMe is a no brainer with all its features.

Home insurance is meant for large losses, not a cell phone. Yes they are pricey but only good insurance is keeping tabs on it. Claiming something relativley small like a cell phone under a home policy would burn you in the long run.
Keep it in the same place all the time. Maybe your paranoia over losing it will keep you from losing it in the first place.

I do have a mac, but I doubt the usefulness of the tracking feature. If I pinpoint the tracker to a particular house, do I automatically qualify for a search warrant and able to break into the building to retrieve my stolen goods? What if the tracker pinpoints that my phone is in the Saddledome? Can I strip-search everyone on the premises?
The one account that I read, the guy was extremely lucky. For one, the perpetrator saw the phone owner and started running, obviously making him out to be the theif. But had he just remained calm there was no means for the victim to identify who in the area was the theif.
If I was to get MobileMe it would be to get an account that I *KNOW* will work with push e-mail. I still can't get it to work with Yahoo and I'm pretty sure it can't work with G-mail. But the tracking feature as theft prevention is a waste if you ask me.

Well with MobileMe you can passlock your iphone (no one can access it), wipe clean all data on your iphone, also put a message onto your iphone, perhaps say "This phone is lost call me at 555-5555". There's more features then just tracking it, to me that's good security for if my phone was ever stolen.

But no quantity of paranoia will help me when I put it in the gym locker and some guy comes along and does this:

Now you could say "Don't bring the phone to the gym." But I go to the gym after work, so then I couldn't bring the phone to work. I'd have to leave it at home all day. What's the point of having an iPhone if you leave it home all day?

I don't believe carriers offer insurance on the Iphone. At least At&t in the states doesn't. They offer them on every phone but the Iphone. I asked them about it and all they could tell me is it's because the Iphone is so expensive.

But the Pre is expensive. And so are some high end Blackberries. Makes no sense. Maybe I'll ask Telus in a few days. I would break my contract with Rogers and pay the penalty to go to a company that would provide iPhone insurance. Yes, I'm THAT paranoid.

That's all great. So the guy who stole the iPhone can't use it. Where do I go from there? Rogers won't let people buy new ones if their phone is stolen (from what I've read) and worse, even if I could buy one, they are $800.
Here is the Telus plan:

I was hoping someone had info about a similar product at Rogers but, from what I'm finding on the series of tubes, no such thing exists.

If your on Rogers dont buy from them, if you lose it, buy online or from forums. You can easily get one for under 800. A 16gb you can get for 500 or less.

If you're so paranoid, why even buy an iphone? If an inanimate object is causing you so much grief, it's not worth it.

When I called Telus about their iPhone, they did mention something about insurance. I'll admit I tuned out as I usually do when somebody offers me insurance, but I do recall them saying it would cover being run over by a car, and was around $10 per month.
Maybe call Telus, get the details, then call Rogers back.

Trust me. It's worth it.
Since my iPhone, I've been more productive, happier and healthier. I can't imagine living without it. Seriously, I have my diet organizer and exercise organizer on there which has helped me lose 60 pounds. I have hundreds of TV shows and podcasts that fill in the time on the bus. My meeting organizer and event reminder have helped me not forget things that in the past I had things thrown at me for forgetting (ie birthdays).
I realize that it's not the iPhone, but any smartphone that could do these things, but I don't know how I survived without a smartphone up to now. Yes, it could be seen as a crutch, but I prefer to see it as a third arm. I can do so much MORE with it.
Ken0042: Thanks!! That sounds promising!
