Default Video editing question

Posting this on behalf of my bro:

I am purchasing a HD video recorder for the office and I want to edit the video and add simple transitions, music and blend two video’s together for a presentation…,.but I will also want to speed up a video from 2 hours to like 20 seconds for exhibit setup interest. We will be utilizing 3-D studio max for the rendering, HD video for the full video, and the music will be purchased for royalty useage. I was looking at Adobe Premiere Pro…but that’s about it so far.

So I guess what he is looking for is video editing software. This is for his company so spending upwards of 1K is fine.

Any suggestions?

Does his business have a Mac? If so, Final Cut Studio is about $1,200.00. That would be a good option as you get a great program for relatively little money.

AVID Media Composer is a good video editor for PC (or Mac) but then you're looking in the $3,000+ range. These programs might be overkill for what he's trying to create, but they'll definitely do anything he needs and more.

I use Premiere, and it should be able to do anything he wants. Sony has a product called Vegas that looks pretty good too, and I think it's a bit cheaper than Premiere.

Vegas or Primiere. Final Cut anything is crap and a memory hog.

Vegas is simply outstanding and I wouldn't use anything else.

I recommend Sony Vegas based solely it's not so steep learning curve unlike Premier.

If he has a mac, Final Cut Pro suite all the way. If not, Avid. Anything else is like comparing MS Paint to Photoshop.

If he knows his way around 3DSmax then FCP shouldn't be much of a stretch for him.
