Default Backup to External HD Issue

I'm trying to backup a 19GB file from my computer's hard drive to my external hard drive. My external hard drive has over 150GB of free space yet I keep getting an error saying I don't have enough space to copy the file. I've tried copying it straight across from my PC to the HD and have tried using the backup utility which came with the external HD - neither worked.

Any ideas?

Default External HD type

If your external HD is a fat32 drive I believe that the biggest you can have a file is 4gb therefore you wont be able to put the 19gb file on it. Are you able to break the file up into segments? That is probably easier than reformatting the drive to a different format (i.e. ntfs). Hope that helps.

It is a fat32 drive so that'll be the issue. I can't break it out - it's one big .rar file.

Thanks for the help.
