Come on, if nothing else winning the shootout for Theo has put this guy on the map. Despite not really facing a whole lot of shots, the guy looked better than Kipper tonight by a mile.

He wasn't really tested as I think the shots were something like 25-4 for the Flames in the third and OT.

Having said that, it felt kind of cool seeing a Flames goalie completely stone the other team in a shootout - something I could get used to.

Good for him. Too bad there is no longer and ECHL affiliate or something like that as I just can't see him beating out Keetly.

There are reports in the Prospects forum that the Flames have already signed Shantz to an AHL contract.

Also the Flames have agreements to assign players to Victoria's and Utah's ECHL teams.

One game but he has had a decent camp I smell a contract offer soon.

Actually I had heard something about the Victoria team now that you mention it. Good reminder.

Was it Mike Rogers who talked about Shantz's junior success in the OHL? Never a bad thing to have some goaltending depth in the system.

Shantz played a great game l thought. He looked confident, was in great position, and made a couple big saves, especially in the shootout. He had no chance on the goal that went in (a rebound goal the defence should have cleared). Very very impressed with the kid.

Who is he anyway? I seriously never even heard of him before camp this year, and I thought I had an alright handle on Flames prospects... I at least knew of their names.

Drafted by FLA. Bounced around for a few years and the Flames offered him a tryout just before camp started.

former 2nd round pick of the Florida panthers

Calgary brought him in on a try-out basis but there is a report in the prospect forum that the Flames have signed him to an AHL contract

Shantz is here since the Flames traded away Lalande this spring for a 4th rounder (which might bite us in the back since Lalande seems to be doing well for the CBJ org at the moment but we'll see).

You never heard of him because he wasn't a prospect until this camp under a try-out invitation.
