Default Looking for a special router

Does anyone know of a router that will allow me to run scripts or commands?

Similar to something that DDWRT allows you do to. But I want to use the normal manufacturer firmware though.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? And why would it be better to run your own code on a router rather than a PC behind the router?

if you want that kind of control, turning an old PC into a router running Unix will be better than any standard router you can buy

Yep. And a lot of the dedicated Linux software router solutions are small enough to run off a compact flash or SD drive, so you end up with a nice quiet, reliable machine.

I need to be able to run this script.

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p udp -i br0 --dport 53 -j DNAT --to $(nvram get lan_ipaddr)
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i br0 --dport 53 -j DNAT --to $(nvram get lan_ipaddr)

I can do it with DDWRT, but because I'm actually selling the router, I'm not convinced that its the most reliable firmware I can find.

Basically the script forces all port 53 traffic to a certain DNS address. Even if someone changes the DNS addresses on the computer.

They aren't cheap, but they are fantastic..we use them at all of our client sites and they are extremely reliable.

Yeah, the price is a concern, but for a higher end router that can do more than what a normal router can, this is perfect.

My other option would have been to buy a firewall, set that up, and buy a low-end router and set it up behind the firewall.

Also, have you ever worked with the Linksys Business Series routers?

Excuse my questions.

Would "Comprehensive SNMP functionality for advanced network management" give me a way to run that script as well?

The Cisco routers are perfect, but I also need a lower-end router that allows me to run that script as well. And I don't really understand all the technical specs.

LOL - when I read the thread title, all I could think of was, "Where do you go to find a router that likes to take long walks on the beach, watch rom-coms & just stay home and cuddle on a Friday night?" Sorry for going a bit OT there.....
