Default Trouble Shoot My Xbox 360 Issue

Tech Ninjas of CP:

I have a Xbox 360 Elite. Approximately 9 months old. A couple months ago I noticed that my wireless controller did not maintain a charge after being hooked up to the console via USB cable. It works fine when the USB cable is hooked up, but as soon as I disconnect, the controller goes dead.

I thought it might be the battery, so I went out and purchased a new rechargable battery for the controller. Same thing.

I've tried switching controllers. No difference.

I've tried both USB outlets. No difference.

When I initially hook up the controller to be charged, the light on the cord on the end that attaches to the remote turns red, but then almost immediately, turns green.

After everything I've tried, should I assume that it's the cord and not the USB ports or the controller? But the cord still supplies power to the controller to turn it on and use it, but does not recharge the battery?

What am I missing here?

Controller is probably broken, Microsoft is very crappy at making physical products. I don't have the play and charge kit though, I just have the battery packs which I have the external charger for.

Did you check Microsoft's site?

Have you tried using batteries in the controller, instead of the charge kit?
Have you tried using another battery pack in the controller?
Have you tried to use the battery pack in another controller?

It sounds like either the pack, or the controller is the culprit.

I've bought another rechargeable battery pack with no change.

I have tried using the battery pack in another controller - no change.

I don't think I've tried using straight batteries yet. I'll give that a whirl to see if it is the controller.

I have not checked the website.

The controller works just fine so long as it's plugged in.
