alltherage's drinking thread made me think about this. So me and my friends all have certain unspoken codes that must be followed at all times.

The Shoe Rule (short version): Pass out with your shoes on, you're fair game for markers, duct tape, the whole kit and kaboodle. Shoes off? Untouchable. It's a rule

Wingman rule: If you enter the wingman zone, it is a dick move to exit it. There while your buddy is the first to start up with the hot girl? Well, you're now obligated to play wingman. You can search to score on your own as well, but you must play interference on the Mother Hen friend. Always.

Beer Karma: Don't always be the guy who doesn't buy. It's just lame. We don't care if you've been unemployed for 6 months. Jump in the unspoken rotation and pitch for some PBR you cheap bastich.

Oh crap the cops rule: If everyone else is having fun, consult at least one member of the group before starting a riotous brawl with the guy who is "crazy eyeing" you. Yes, we've got your back, but not if you're the ######. When you're the ######, it's your problem.

Anyone else have basic rules like this? They don't have to be drinking related, just seems that's all my friends and I do.

Edit: Left out an important one. If someone's fly is down, that's their problem. You didn't see anything.

If there's a woman with a boob hanging out it's your obligation under any and all circumstances to point it out (regardless of hot chick or not). I find my female friends have trouble understanding this. They tend to tell each other, but not me!

When buying a birthday (or an occasion) shot, you do the same shot. It's only fair. Mind you, you're only doing one bad/gross shot, the celebratoree gets to do lots of various ones. Still a bit of honour with the same result.

Don't try and tap your friends lady or ex-lady in any way shape or form.

Don't point out your buddies pit stains in public, especially in front of hot girls (I broke this once and still haven't lived it down)

If you puke on someones rug be man enough to show up the next morning and clean it up.

I was at a wedding last weekend, where one of the groomsmen hit on another groomsman's girlfriend. Also a guy I know hit on my girlfriend.

Neither of the guys trying to pick up were a threat, but still. Why hit on a girl in a relationship with a friend of yours, when there are slutty bridesmaid's hitting on anything that moves?

See I think this is all up to circumstantial factors of the situation, it's really hard to say weather this is definitively breaking code or not. On the one hand you're probably going to be doing your pal a favour if he's been in the 'friend zone' for a long period of time, because it will force him to get over her.

On the other hand he'll undoubtedly be pissed and feel humiliated, which is what the code is trying to prevent (sometimes).

Personally if the girl has given your friend the "I only want to be friends" talk. Than it's fine for you to jump right in, without breaking code.

When a friend asks you for beers or whatever, you ask before inviting other people, even if the other people are mutual friends. (If possible without seeming rude to other people, sometimes it isn't.)

When ugly dude is hitting on me or another girlfriend, the other person is expected to immediately determine said dude is ugly and need not apply and put a stop to it right away.

This also applies to men. If fatty mcthinkshe'shot starts getting on your friend, it's your responsibility to be a total ass and get her away. Unless you're in violation of wingman rule. Lord knows I've told a story where my "buddy" (allegedly) broke this rule....

I have 2 girlfriends in violation of this code. To this day i will never let them live it down, and have since let them suffer in return. TIT for tat.

I'd say there's only one rule regarding this situation. If your pal still has strong feelings for her (we aren't talking quick lays here), then I'd say drop it. He will undoubtedly feel like he's been stabbed in the back, then he has to suffer by seeing you two together all the time. If he's fully admitted it won't happen, then make sure, then go for it.

Exactly, otherwise you're being a dick. If he's cool with it, then it's a green light.
