Default The Open Championship - 2009

British Open this week at Turnberry. Who will take home the Claret Jug this year? Tiger or the Feild?

I would be cheering for Phil since he is not going on his personal life, I'm cheering for no one.

Hard not to bet on Tiger as is the case with every tourney he plays in.

His one downfall in this case is that he has never seen the course before which surprised me. I thought Turnberry had hosted the Open somewhat recently anyways.

I guess his first practice round was last week. I could just be grasping at straws looking for a weakness in his chances since his game doesn't have any.

At 3-1 odds I take Tiger, anything less I take the field. I should check to see what the British oddsmakers are giving.

Doesn't look as if anyof the British bookies can better 3-1.

15 years since it's been at Turnberry, Nick Price won it in 94.

3 to 1 is not enough.

I've always found it difficult for Tiger to win on a course that's only par 70.

Are you talking about Anthony Kim? Because if so, he's american, and he's actually of Korean descent.

I assume he is talking about Ryo Isikawa. The 18 year old Japanese golf phenom.

I've never heard of him, but that's because I get all my golf news from Jim Rome and ESPN so then tend to focus mainly on yankees.

Wasn't it stephen ames who said that anthony kim has a better swing and will probably be a better player than Tiger?

He has already won in Japan and was the youngest player ever to be ranked in the top 100.

Not necessarily going to be great but is a big star in Japan and brings the usual Japanese media throng that a star from Japan brings with them.

I haven't heard that Ames comment but considering the odd things he says and people's weird love affair with Kim I wouldn't be surprised.

94 was the last year it hosted....2 years before Tiger turned pro.

I have no doubt he will be near the top, if not on it, when Sunday rolls around. If he employs the same strategy as he did 2 years ago and leaves the woods in the bag, he should win going away. As long as he keeps it in play...im not sure anyone can beat him. The weather will be a huge factor though and may be an advantage to some of the Euros who play in those conditions much more often.

I'd like to see another European win it. Garcia, Westwood, McIlroy, etc. I don't think Padraig will contend this year.

Otherwise, I like Hunter Mahan's game right now.

Jim Furyk is my sleeper pick.

Tom Watson at age 60 is the early leader at -4.

Tiger is -1 thru 11.

The wind has stayed calm so i am a bit surprised that scoring isnt a bit lower....however there is lots of golf left.

Amazing to wake up and see Tom Watson's name on the leaderboard.

When I was a kid in the 70s and my dad was forcing me to watch golf on TV, Watson was at the peak of the game. Always the classiest player and far and away my favourite.

I know odds are against him contending, but it's nice for him to have this one moment in the sun at age 59.

Tiger done blowed up down the back 9. Couldnt hit his woods straight and it cost him. +1 on the day.

Watson still on top as he finishes at -5. Weir on the leaderboard as well at -2...though he did have it at -3 at one point and still has 8 to play.

Lots and lots of golf left still.

Can he miss the cut please. I'm tired of his swearing and slamming clubs on tv. He acts like a 5 year old, not a champion.

Hopefully Watson can put forth another good round tommorrow. I always felt bad for the guy not winning a single PGA to get the career slam. Even into the late 80's and early 90's he always seemed to show a lot better at the majors despite getting up there in age. Love seeing these older guys have those weekends where they play really well.

God forbid a little competitiveness and emotion from the best player to ever touch a golf club.

I don't see any five year olds with 14 major trophies in their trophy cabinet.
