Default Why doesn't the CFL have it's own videogame?

have you seen Canadian only funded games?

I think tetris has a step up on most of them...

The market isn't big enough. I wish Madden would add a CFL mode and franchises though - even as DLC, it would be a cool add on and perhaps more viable than as a stand alone game.

On top of that, would it even sell outside of the prairies? I can't see people lining up to buy a CFL game in BC or Ontario. I've seen countless threads over the years about this on CFL message boards, and a few small companies have tried to do it, but some roadblock always gets in the way. Basically its never gonna happen.

I dont know why the Madden franchise just doesn't throw in CFL teams like they used to with NFL Europe teams(yes I realize NFL Europe and NFL are connected, hence why its easier). You dont even have to put CFL rules or field sizes in there, just make the teams and roster. Throw us a bone. I'm sure more people would use the Calgary Stampeders than the Amsterdam Admirals.

If such a game was made, it would be soo bad due to lack of funds for the market. Everyone would go back to Madden.

And is the NFL trying to get into Canada? If so, I don't think they would ever want CFL in the same game.

Pure and simple, not enough of a market. Even if half of the CFL market actually played video games, it wouldn't be close enough to the minimum for any major game company to endorse the money to build the game. They would most likely make little profit or even lose money.

The only group that could do it would be EA sports. They already have spent the money on the game engine so you would get that madden Quality. EA has also produced an NCAA version of their game already. I doubt the incremental costs to convert it to CFL rules would be that high.

So do be viable it would have to sell enough copies to cover its aditional costs plus cover the number of canadians who would buy the CFL game instead of Madden.

I for one would by a CFL football game made by EA and yes I am a rider fan

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I cant remember which ncaa version it was that in the create-a-team you could make the CFL teams with logos and everything. You had to manual type in "stampeders" and "argonauts" and such, but the announcer actually said the team names when entering the field. the crowd had some basic chants too.

I was in a league in NHL 08 with a guy who seemed to run a bunch of online leagues for different sports games. I'm not up on my football games (as I hate football), but whatever game was released that wasn't Madden (the one with all the classic players I think) apparently had a really good create a team feature. He was from Winnipeg, so he made a bunch of CFL teams and started up a CFL league with a bunch of Americans. According to him the Americans absolutely loved it. And there you have it, your useless story for the day.

There was a very good CFL boardgame in the 1980s. One of the best sports game we ever played.
