Default Lotto 6/49 $49,851,871.00

A single winner from Edmonton no less. Probably the closest I'll ever come to winning 50 million

I don't buy tickets on these things but I have never understood why they don't have 49 winners for example in this case of 1 million each rather than one winner. Like spread the wealth around and up the odds of winning.

How can you possibly do this? If you choose 49 different combinations there can be a lot more then 49 winners, or a lot less.

I'm sure some math/computer whiz could come up with something that had multiple winners.

It would be a different game entirely then.

Really, for 6/49, the best they could do to support your suggestion is to lower the grand prize and raise the prize for people who hit 5/6, 4/6, etc. However, since lotteries succeed based on selling dreams of "get super rich today!", that's not likely to change.

Though, Super 7 is being discontinued in the fall, and will be replaced with an entirely new lottery. Wonder how they will run the new lotto?

Probably the easiest way of doing it would be to have multiple draws. But that'd be kinda lame since there's already draws twice per week (I think).
Personally I think it's pretty cool that the jackpot went to one person. Hopefully, though, the ticket was merely purchased in Edmonton. Not by an Edmontonian.

Especially when that one person blows it all on a new mobile home, new jogging pants and highlights for his/her mullet...

A vast collection of designer dress socks to go with his sandals.

+ a vacation to Shelbyville.

He'll also be able to eat out of a higher quality of garbage cans.

I can see it now. A man with a grizzly beard and a greasy mullet wearing his vintage 80's oilers jerseys complete with several mustard stains goes and claims his prize. Five months later after buying all of his friends corvettes and getting his mullet cut and styled by the worlds most expensive hairdresser he will look damn good (for an Edmontonian) but be more broke then before he won the prize.

It's still true. Lotteries are the tax solely for the stupid.

If the lotto is over 15mil I get a 10$ ticket once a week.

I dont smoke or excessively drink and I bring my lunch 5/5 days a week unless sometihing is planned. I figure its a shot (a bad one mind you but still) at upguaging mine and my immediately family/friends lifestyle. I dont check the numbers online, I simply check the ticket the next time I get another one.

This. I agree completely. Although I buy lunch sometimes during the week.
