Mame
I have several gigs of ROMs and MAME. Is anyone else interested in this stuff? A few arcade games I could never finish (at Bullwinkles) now are pwned in my living room!

I am a big fan of this, but I'm also a completionist and it always frustrated me how difficult it was to get a complete collection that was also up to date with the latest mame. Fire - the reason it won't load is that the version you have is not the latest release. It's funny but a MAME rom isn't complete when you get it. The get updated with each MAME release and thusly olders ones are not compatible with newer versions of MAME
Also, I never figured out the CHD files and all that business. Getting it all together is no easy feat. There is no place that has everything at once in the latest formats. Even if you go for the MAME torrents, it's all a mish mash of shoddiness and some of the more complete ones push 60GB and you don't even know how current they are.

Does anyone on CP have a sizable MAME collection? I'd like to get it sorted out or perhaps share what we have to complete it.

How about easy to follow directions for a good MAME cabinet?

I was pretty anal about keeping my set complete, but it got to the point that I was spending way more time updating than playing, so I've lagged behind on the last few updates. Still, the collection is up over 150 GB.

Newsgroups is a fantastic place to get updated on ROMS.. I also recall a program for mame when I used to collect roms, that checked it to the newest version... It was called MAME CHECKER or something like that.. Is telling someone that newsgroups has a great list against the rules? hellllloo grey area!

I have about 8 gigs of NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, Master System, Neo Geo and Gameboy ROMS, and about 20 gigs of Arcade ROMs from a couple years ago, although about 12gigs of that is CHD files.
It is my dream to custom build a coffee table arcade machine to connect to a projector in my basement to play all of these.

Why build a custom build a coffee table machine if you are just hooking it up to your projector? Just use a computer and a USB hub to your couch for controllers. Seems like a waste of a custom table to me.

The table will simply be the controls. Kind of like this table here except with 2 (or 4 if space works out) sets of arcade controls instead. If I can work it in, I would love to have the computer there as well, but my current design was lacking on space, so I had to move it out.
edit: I guess the term coffee table machine is probably incorrect since I am removing the computer and it does not contain a monitor. The proper term is probably a Coffee Table Arcade Controller. My bad.

I am happy to trade my collection with anyone else for whatever they have. I have about 1,000 games, running on Mame 32 0.36 beta 6. The versions run really well.
Varth runs perfectly.
Rathji, I am interested in your collection, interested in a trade? I can fit all of mine on one DVD, included MAME itself. You can even run it from the DVD.
I am happy to trade goodwill to anyone else as well.

So just to be clear, you were able to get it now right?

I have the complete, latest release of Mame with all the CHD's. All the rom sets are complete. The roms are about 15-20 gigs, the chds quite a bit more.
I'd be happy to host an FTP and give you guys access if there's interest. The problem is I'm going out of town tomorrow morning and might not have time to set it up.
Edit: Roms with the chds equals 83.8 gigs.
