Default Question about Infractions

Why do some expire, and some not?

Can anyone explain the infraction point system?

If they don't expire it's either because they were really serious, or more likely because we just forgot to set them to expire. From our point of view they are the same thing at this point; nonexpiring isn't intentionally any worse.

We do have a thread going on right now about revamping the infraction system and having it more structured and such, so there would be a difference between the two, nonexpiring ones being more serious and something we'd want to know about a poster.

Why is it only KevanGuy that picks on me? j/k

I was wondering the same thing when I got my last infraction, which was a mistake and fixed.

I have two infractions and neither expire, and neither were that bad and both were from jiri IIRC.

I say we just adopt the Colin Campbell wheel of justice. I don't want there to be any rhyme or reason to my punishment, just spin the wheel.

Normally we don't discuss infractions publicly but since you brought it up...they were both from me indeed, one from when you called someone moron, and the other from when you called someone a prick.

Pretty cut and dry.

Keep in mind in addition to setting the expiration we also can apply various number of points. So really serious stuff can get like 5 points, and less serious stuff can get 1 point.

I have a perma infraction from retaliating against someone who told me to think before I post and calling him a fool. I feel like some NHL players do after they get slashed and respond with a cross-check, ending up the only one called.

I think I should get mine removed on the basis of good behavior! It was 3 years ago... Prison sentences get pardoned for it, why can't my infraction, damn it!

The infractions are just a record of mod actions over time.. they let us keep track of things.

So if you have one infraction 3 years ago, and then get another one, the mod is going to shrug and move on.

If you have 3 infractions and they're in the span of a week and they're all for the same thing, they'll probably take further action.

Basically it gives us more information.. there's too many people to keep everyone's history in our active memory.

Where might one check his infractions?

This is a big annoyance of mine...how do you know what was called. We keep infractions private yet people complain about what is and isn't given an infraction. This is why its not public info.

HPlove deserved an infraction for that. I am entitled to a full explanation of why he did not receive one.

Lol. Revisiting my infractions is kinda fun. I got one for calling another member a ######, one for bypassing the swear filter and one for calling another member a bemulleted, switchblade carrying oilers fan.

Ken's a bit of a nazi, eh? Probably has a mullet and carrys a switchblade.

Four permafractions for me, but at least they are all one pointers.

Guess I shouldn't have called Jiri a Spaniard...

Out of curiousity, what is the highest total of infraction points anyone has gotten before banning? Obviously no names will be named.

Oh quite a bit. In the double digits, and most of the infractions are 1 points.

Infractions should put strange and bewildering effects on people and their posting abilities.

For instance, 1 or 2 infractions nothing happens. The 3rd infraction means everytime you say Calgary Flames it converts it to Edmonton Oilers so everyone believes you're a raging Oiler fans and punishes you verbally.

Heh, one thing I've seen used on other forums that might be cool is disemvoweling.. a really dumb poster doesn't get banned right away, but everything he posts has all the vowels removed. Still readable by anyone who cares, but not many will.
