Default Birthday gift for my girlfriend....help!!!!

Here's the deal: it has to be something that I make myself, not buy. I want it to be something that will take me more than a couple hours to make. We're pretty serious in our relationship so no need to hold anything back. Does anyone have any big-project type ideas on what I could make? No, I am not sewing anything...I want to go all out but I'm totally at a loss considering I'm not really a crafts guy or anything. Help CP!!!!

Do you two have a bunch of pictures that were taken together on trips and such? I know you said you don't want to buy anything but buy a cheap digital photo frame along with a usb stick, put a bunch of pictures on the usb stick that is a significance to you two. Women love things like that.

Take a box, cut a hole in the box, put your **** in the box.

Seriously, I once learned how to play piano and specifically one of my girlfriend's favorite songs on the piano for her birthday - would something like that work?

Definitely at least make your own card. Construction paper, foam, stickers. Write your own message inside. Or if you're daring, write a poem.

As for the gift itself -- a Lego project could be wicked. If you go to Michaels, they could help you out with other ideas.

A scrapbook of your love. Cupcakes. Something she needs around the house (eg: a shoe rack).

Ummm....typical girl. She likes music (I considered writing a song for her but she'd expect that - I want to do something totally out of my character) and horses. I know she'd be happy with anything from me, but that makes me want to go the extra mile for her.

Make a saddle that you can wear so she can ride you; be her own personal "horse"

No because I play the piano for a living and that would be too easy

And no to the personal horse idea

I just want to do something that she totally wouldn't expect...the Michael's idea has some merit...what kinds of huge crafts and stuff are there thare are actually romantic though?

I once made a personalized homemade teddybear for a girlfriend, you can buy everything you need at a hobbyshop including instructions.

I saw this somewhere.

Take a picture of the two of you, get it blown up to about 3 X 4 feet (or so) then cut it into peices 4 X 6 inches (guessing).

Then put each of those into plastic holders, punched holes in each corner and then string them all back together; to make a wall hanging.

It sounds strange, but they look really cool. Especially in black and white.

LOl thats up to you. A huge collage of pictures done up would be nice, or maybe doing a scrapbook of your relationship so far sound good

I've done that for my wife and she loved it. It is similar to Philly06's idea, but use hard copy photos. Add in any letters, ticket receipts, etc to capture a collection of 'Memories' with her.

Making the cupcakes is also a great idea. Who doesnt love cupcakes?

Me and my buddies have a "squid of the year award." For 2006 a buddy won it by missing a Superbowl party by attending a pottery class. So maybe see where that type of class takes place.

Or for a "welcome home" gift for my g/f (she was away for 3 weeks) I actually finished one of the rooms in the basement- the bathroom. I've been working on the basement for 3 years, so she was impressed. Win-win.

Am I the only one to think of the gift George Clooney makes in Burn After Reading? Haha.

Seriously, though? Sorry, I've got no ideas.

1. Buy lots, and lots, and lots.......and lots of sticky notes.

2. On each sticky note, write something: you like about her, or a special memory about her, or just things like "I love you", etc. Short and to the point, but things that are great about her.

3. Without her knowing, take all of the sticky notes you wrote up - remember there should be A LOT - and sticky them in a room in her/your appart/house/whatever. Just one room.

4. The room should be PLASTERED with sticky notes. Put them on the walls, on the ceiling, on furniture, on whatever. Just cover everything.

5. Wait for her to go into that room. She will have to take every last sticky note down (or she may ask you to help), but I am sure it will be one "chore" that she won't complain about. At all.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.
