On my old machine, Nero would turn everything into coasters, but WMP had not problem. I wonder if it could be a driver or codec issue. (driver issue on a Mac?)

That's odd ... one of my favorite things about my mac is that it burns more reliably than any other computer I've ever had. I'm not working on a macbook pro though, just an imac. You'd think if there was a problem with your discs it wouldn't even let you burn to it at all. Pretty annoying it gets all the way to the end before telling you it didn't work.

Try different software to burn the cd's. Could be a bad drive, could also be something screwy in the software.
I haven't had any trouble burning CD's on my Macbook, but the occasional audio CD is unreadable. Drives me up the wall.

I've never had any problems burning anything on my iMac or Macbook Pro. I burn DL-DVDs, DVDs and CDs regularly on both machines using Disk Utility.
All I can suggest is actually trying a different media, like the message says (ie: try a different brand of DVD), and if that still doesn't work, just call up the Apple store and book an appointment with a Genius and they'll get the ball rolling for you... or just call Tech Support.
Other than that, I dunno what to say dude. Sometimes even a Ferrari needs to go back in to get a faulty part replaced. It happens.

It's a scam to get you to buy the matching iPod with your macbook. They color coordinate it all so you feel validated when you use them together.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I seem to recall reading something about how those "viruses" turned out to be just a hoax.

He's probably referring to the trojans that were discovered in some warez distributed copies of iWork09 and Photoshop.
Not a hoax, but certainly not viruses.

Actually you're not paying at all for the superior hardware, just the Apple brand. Dollar for dollar you can get significantly better quality components in a PC.

I support this thread turning into a mac vs. pc thing because that rarely happens on cp.
Let's focus on helping the guy with his issue shall we?

BOOO HISSS! or something.
Do a component by component, feature by feature comparison of a Macbook and it's PC equivalent. Then price it out.
It's not far off.
You may be correct as far as desktop systems go, but who the heck buys an Apple desktop machine?
Most of the apple hate comes from college nerds who want to build uber gaming machines on a tight budget. Or from IT workers who are terrified of supporting machines without built-in step by step wizards designed to make managing large networks so easy a 10 year old can do it.
Yeah, I bit the hook. I'm bored.

Choose a lower speed manually instead of using the default. Works every time for me and I had the exact same problem.
