Coalition 'dead': Bloc leader
Quote:
"There is no more coalition today, very clearly," Duceppe told reporters outside the House. "It's dead. It's over. It's finished."
|
With the Liberals pretty much supporting the budget (Cant see the Cons not accepting their easy amendment), it looks like the political system is getting itself back on track.
Figured it warranted its own thread.

But...but....I thought that Canadians voted for a coalition of which Duceppe and Layton and Ignatieff/Dion were all too willing to do??????

I was laughing thinking about that idiot Jack Layton after Ignatieff announced the Liberals were supposrting the budget. Hopefully, this means his 15 minutes are up.

I never thought that Ignatieff would want to begin making his stamp on Canadian politics being handcuffed to those two donkeys.

Co-incidence that Obama's camp makes the announcement he'll be visiting in February, right after Ignatieff secures les conservateurs for a while longer?

Unfortunately, no. Layton got the NDP as close to power as the party ever has, and probably ever will again. He's easily been the most successful leader the NDP has had.

In fact, he got so close that if I remotely respected the guy and believed even a little bit in what his party stands for I would slightly consider them as a party I may vote for.
Happy trails, Jack.

Seems like a pretty good amendment. When considering the budget represented a complete white flag from the Conservatives, there was nothing really to change when looking back at the "coalition's" demands.

Yes?
( care to enlighten us as to what you are insinuating?)
(And I'm pretty sure Obama had his visit planned prior to our budget dropping, he just announced it today)

Actually, no. Obama visiting Canada when it was without a Prime Minister and in the middle of a divisive election would cause more headaches than the trip would be worth. While it was certainly planned, ahead of time one can pretty much guarantee that the announcement of the trip was deliberately held back until our politics sorted itself out.

Jack Layton clearly showed that he doesn't care about the Canadian people. He only cares about elevating Jack Layton to a position of power and esteem.
It was despicable of the man to decide to reject the budget that the Canadian public demands without even looking at it.
He is a weasel of the highest order.

Seems like things worked out in the end. Leaders of both major parties appear to be intelligent enough to know that this isn't the time for any more brinkmanship.
I've actually been called 3 times since this started to be asked my view by the CPC.

Hilarious stuff. This has got to cement Stephane Dion as the worst federal Liberal leader in the history of Canada.

And somehow, didn't expect the Liberals to outflank the Conservatives on fiscal policy again this quickly, but it looks like that's where Ignatieff is positioning them. I'm no longer hugely disenchanted with them and can now resume my regularly scheduled detesting the Conservatives for "balancing" the budget right as the boom was cresting in order to try to buy votes for the hidden social conservative agenda that by process of elimination must be what's holding their party together.

Red Jack had me lying awake at night worrying about the thought of him being close to the purse strings of this country.
