Default Product (Red) and Green!

Hey guys and gals...

I don't normally do this kind of thing, and I'll try not to take up too much of your time.

Here's the deal. We're smart people. A lot of us know there are other parts of the world besides the ones we live in. A lot of us are aware of the low quality of living standards in those places as well.

I know we're busy, and I know money's tight.

But, what if it was actually easy to help out and it didn't even cost you a dime?

This Christmas, while you're out doing your shopping for your family, friends, etc... look for stores and products that carry the Product (Red) symbol. It's that easy.

Your daughter wants an iPod for Christmas? Why not skip over the usual stores and drive over to the Apple Store at Market Mall and buy her a red one? It's the exact same same price as any other iPod (there's never a markup for these products), and it's in a cool shade of red. The best part, though, is that you can tell her that her Christmas present also provided 83 single-dose treatments to help reduce the risk of HIV transmission from a mother to her child in Africa.

Your son wants a laptop? Why not go online to Dell.ca and get him a Product (Red) laptop? Awesome designs, a Product (Red) version of Windows... and... 6 weeks of treatment for person living with AIDS in Africa.

What about Christmas cards? Every Product (Red) card from Hallmark provide a single treatment to help prevent a mother with AIDS from passing it to her child. How many Christmas cards do you buy every year? 10? 20? Every one of those cards could help a child be born without an incurable disease. If that doesn't say "Merry Christmas" I don't know what does.

Anyway, you all get the point. There are a pile of other products, too. They're all on the Product (Red) website.

We're Flames fans, after all. Joining Red should be a pretty easy decision for us.

(I stole all the facts and numbers from their site, btw. You can see them for yourselves if you go there... and I apologize if this post comes off as being cheesy, like I said I don't normally do this kind of thing.)

God, I have a good story about product red to tell.

I mention this all the time, but I'll mention it again. I work at Hallmark. Every year we give out these tiny little pocket sized datebooks. People love these things, they come in for them specifically. So there's this one awful, and exceptionally foul, woman that comes in every year for them. She always tries to get more than one, they're freaking free for you, just be happy with your 1 or 2 damnit. I'm not giving you 8! Sorry...I got sidetracked. Anyhow, so this year, Hallmark's really pushing the product red so it's on the cover of these datebooks. And this woman gripes about the cover. Normally there's a picture of flowers on it (or something frilly like bunnies), this year it's like this big red design with (HALLMARK)^red branded on it. And she says to me, "I don't know why they did this, completely ruined the cover, who cares about Africa?" That is a freaking direct quote. Well guess what lady! Who cares about you?!

I'm sorry, I just had to share that.

I just bought a Product (Red) Dell V505 printer. It looks nicer with the red, it was on sale, and hey, free donation... why not?

Exactly!

It's like I was explaining to one of the ladies in my office this morning... You're standing in the aisle at a card shop, trying to pick a Christmas card for your husband... there's a red one and a green one, and they're both $5. If the red one saves someone's life, and the green one just says Merry Christmas... that's a pretty easy decision, no?

...and both end up in the trash within a week.

May as well buy the donation card... at least its worth the paper its printed on. Its not like it even costs more, these corporations are donating for you.

Wow, what a miserable waste of humanity. You have to know that somebody that selfish will be the first one looking for a handout if something ever goes wrong with her. If the economy was better I'd say it'd be worth risking your job to tell her off.

I think there are a couple of good reasons the product red initiative works...the products are good products that people want to buy..and in many cases the Red actually enhances how they look. They've done a good job with it.

Its too bad Emporio Armani is quite tough to get around these parts... you just know they're releasing some awesome looking product... and one can use the excuse, "who cares if its expensive, its for a good cause."

Well, now I feel quite good about my red 16gb iPod nano. I didn't even realize this, just liked the colour.

Sorry guys. I want to try to keep this on the first page over the weekend. I imagine there will be a lot of Christmas shopping being done these next few days...

I'll try not to be too much of a pain in the ass about it though. Hopefully people won't mind.

Sounds good! Do they make them with captain morgans spiced rum, or will I have to supply my own?

Well in that case I'm not going to go out and buy one.

I did however call the roommate and tell her to pick me one up on her way home...
