Greentree
For you Quad City guys who get to see the games live, I've noticed Greentree has been putting up some pretty good numbers lately after a rather sluggish start; how has he looked overall?

that top line has clicked a lot better as the season goes on. greentree has looked better as well. he has had trouble finishing at times. haven't seen any gaping holes in his game. he uses his size to battle for the puck. isn't the fastest out there, but seems to skate hard at most times. though for someone thats more of a goal scorer, there hasn't been a time where i thought to myself 'boy what a hard slapshot' or 'man that was a wicked wrister' though i do admit to not knowing much about his background.

As of last night's game, he tied the QC Flames record for consecutive games with a goal, at five. Aside from the first handful of games this season, I think Greentree has been the second best forward on the team. He plays a very mature, relaxed game. It's hard to believe that this is only his second pro season. He rarely gets rattled. He's not overly physical, but I've noticed that he doesn't get knocked off of his game when the other team thumps him around.

I agree. At the beginning of the season, he really had me wondering.
But I think it was a comfort thing. Once he got comfortable on the ice and with his linemates, he seems to have just taken off! At one point last night, I actually said, "Wow!" when watching him play. He's an awesome addition and really seems to keep his head.....

Thanks for the first-hand info guys, I really appreciate it. From the sounds of it, he doesn't necessarily stand out in one particular aspect of the game but overall is a fairly complete player.

and if anything, the 'doesn't stand out' aspect was a good thing earlier in the year. because early on, if you were standing out, it generally meant you were doing something wrong.
and i do sometimes have a somber tone to my evaluations. i often point out flaws instead of strengths. i think it comes from my attitude of too many fans thinking every prospect is a future first liner; so i kinda go in the other direction to keep it balanced.

And I think that's a good way to approach it. As fans, you're right, we tend to think all our prospects will be unreal. It's easy to do because we hope they'll turn out well. After seeing Greentree in the prospect camp, my hope is he can perform like David Moss, a 2nd/3rd liner type of guy, that would be the best to hope for. I guess we'll see how the rest of the year finishes out.

That's kinda weird....dobbles' post made me think about it, and I think that I sometimes still fall into that "minor league" mentatlity where I don't look at any of these guys as future first liners! I look at their hockey skills, and sometimes compare them to what we had before. These guys, naturally, should be much better....which is why I think that I'm disappointed when they don't perform to the level that I expect them to.
Sometimes just being patient as a fan might just be the answer!
