Thumbs up Jeremy Steinke found guilty

A jury has found Jeremy Steinke guilty as charged on all three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his girlfriend's parents and eight-year-old brother in Medicine Hat in 2006.

As per AM 770 - no links as of now

Too bad our justice system is toothless.

This should mean three consecutive life sentences... which means no parole for at least 50 years. Or a nice execution.

He'll probably get 25 years to life, with parole in 15.

That's exactly what's wrong with our legal/justice system. He kills 3 people, and he'll get no more than 25 years.

Doesnt anybody else find that really weird? That sounds like a bomb plot out of a Grisham novel.

Yep... in Canada if you kill someone... you may as well clean out your revenge list. Make that 25 years worth it.

He should be spending the rest of his life behind bars. We can only hope he never passes his parole board hearings.

Hopefully someone in prison takes care of buisness. Sometimes the body politic must be fixed by indivuduals.

First degree murder conviction is 25 years BEFORE you can apply for parole.

Faint Hope Clause.

Sorry, not 10, 15. Still a slap on the wrist for a vicious, premeditated triple homocide, one being a child.

I thought the faint hope clause didn't apply to 1st degree murder?

I think she got around 7 years. She'll be out and still not able to legally drink in some states.

Nope, its especially for first and second degree murder.

On second glance, multiple homocides don't apply.

So, whatever. 25 years.

That works out to 8.33 years per person. Sick.

First degree murder - mandatory life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for 25 years (can be paroled under the Faint-Hope Clause after 15 years imprisonment, but such a reduction is rarely given and is not available for multiple murders)

Conversely, one could hope that the obviously mentally-damaged young man discovers some remorse in prison, recognizes the horror of what he's done, and with the help of the system works to rehabilitate himself and becomes a contributing member of society upon his ultimately deserved release.
